Hi all. I'm currently a third year analyst in a bb firm based in HK. Have had experience for the past 3 years in leveraged finance / DCM. Interested now in looking for something different to do. Prefer to stay in finance (particular interest in wealth management and trading which i've never done before) given pay, but wouldn't hesitant to try out start-ups. Any suggestions / guidance on the basis of my background?

Hi all,

I applied online for GS's HK IBD (Corporate Finance) and received an invite for first round phone interview. I applied for this position four months ago, and finally heard from them now. To be honest, I wasn't expecting a phone interview from them, since I am from a non-target 2nd tier UC MBA program in California. I have no prior finance work experience. Undergrad degree was Economics. However, I am fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin.

I don't want to mess up this opportunity. I've been working very hard in my MBA program. I applied to BB networking events, did informational interviews with other BBs. Basically, trying all I can. I'm planning to order the WSO guides and study. Am I heading into the right direction?

Moving from NYC to hong kong

I am currently considering the possibility of doing an exchange internally from the NYC office of my bank to the hong kong office. I would like to know what the potential pros and cons of the move would be.

A bit of background: I am a 2nd year associate in a successful group of a top tier bank. The exchange would probably be for 6 or 12 months, preference would be for 6 months as I would like to be backin nyc for a full year for my promotion year (LT planis to be in NYC). I do not speak any Asian language.

What are the pros and cons of such a move? Is there a risk I would not be able to come back to the nyc office? (I don't think so but have you heard of is happening?). Would that blow promotion chances up? Any bonus risk?

We all know that the current market condition is like a shit...But Asia should still be recruiting as opposed to the hiring freeze in NYC, London.

Let's post it here if anyone is having an interview with IBD @HK. Let's see how is the recruitment going in HK

What kind of Chinese language test to expect for HK IBD positions?

Hi guys,

Heard from my seniors that for IBD FT analyst interviewees in HK, there will be a chinese language test of sorts. How common is this amongst the international banks, especially the Bulge Brackets? And in what form will this test come in (written, comprehension, reading)?

I am a non-PRC chinese seeking employment in the territory, and was just wondering about the kind of preparation that I can undertake.

Would appreciate it greatly if someone can shed some light on this. Thanks!

Hey all, one of my long-term goals is to work abroad for a couple years while I'm still young and single. My dream job is to work for an investment bank in HK or anywhere in China. I'm a white American, but have been studying Mandarin Chinese for 3 years and have been to China 3 times. I would really love to work in China but getting a job in NY is hard enough.

Any advice (preferably from somebody who has had experience at an HK/China IBD) on how I can best position myself for landing a job in HK out of college? I'm currently at UMich if that helps.

Thanks a million
