Savings account compromised

Random question, but I guess this is what the monkeying around section is for...

My savings account at one of my banks had some fraudulent activity on it. Luckily I had exactly $0 in the account at the time (was moving some money around), but it appears the person tried to buy four separate items through paypal using my savings account, and then got a NSF fee because of it, which was charged to my savings account for each item attempted to purchase.

Looks like spammers are stepping up their game. Just in the past week, I've come across two pretty thought out scams trying to get my personal information. While they didn't succeed, it was an effort far more targeted and advanced than the old poorly written emails and Nigerian wire schemes.

Characteristic of these Spam 2.0 efforts:

1. No more glaring typos and gramatical errors, sound American written (One of them even abreviated words to make it seem like it was a casual email typed up from a phone)
2. Targeted towards something you are interested in
3. Decently researched concept

Here's the ones I got this week:

Adam Wheeler, a 23-year old from Delaware, is being charged with larceny, identity theft, and fraud after faking his way into Harvard and taking the school for $45,000 in scholarships, grants, and financial aid. Step aside jeffrey chiang. Take a seat Aleksey Vayner. There's a new kid in the bullshitter's Cooperstown.

Wheeler didn't take any half-steps in his scam, either. He not only claimed to have earned a perfect academic record at Phillips Academy to gain admission to Harvard in 2007, he backed up the claim with a falsified transcript from MIT. He might have gotten away with it too, if he hadn't pushed the envelope by later applying for Rhodes and Fulbright scholarships.

"This defendant's actions cheated those who competed honestly and fairly for admissions and for the scholarships that this defendant fraudulently obtained," Leone said.

I wish there was one place in the forum where you could truly post anonymously. I'd be happy to post the full details of our bonus structure for 1st-3rd years and name my bank, but then i'd be outed and sure enough some troll would search my entire posting history and nail me somehow.

I'd rather not try to create a second username, but just post as "Anonymous"
