Every so often the subject of Aleksey Vayner comes up on WSO. His story is probably the gold standard of cautionary tales on Wall Street hiring. For those who don't know, he added a 7-minute video to his resume when he applied to UBS in 2006. The video (entitled "Impossible Is Nothing") was leaked by UBS and took the Internet by storm. He didn't get hired, he dropped out of Yale, and he even received death threats because of it.

Here he is in an interview following his appearance at ROFLCON last month at MIT. To say he's been humbled by the experience would be an understatement. Check it out:

Trader - Career Advice

Interested in becoming a trader. Took a futures class, traded agriculture futures and really enjoyed it.

I already graduated with degree in finance and worked for large insurance co (that begins with A and if you shorted the stock, prob made a shit ton of money) I built book of business from $400k to $18M over four years.
Have great sales and marketing skills but need to figure the best way to approach legit trading houses given my background.

The problem is
1. I didn't go to an Ivy (wasn't planning on majoring in finance)
2. Don't have anyone in my network who is a trader

.....so is getting into a top 10 MBA the best route?

Launchpad views - share 'em, trade 'em, brag about yours

After noticing all the ridiculous Launchpad screens in Wall Street 2, started thinking, why not post up your own here? I'm all for getting some new ideas. Even better if you're willing to send your view from your terminal.

Here's a picture I just grabbed off the BBG web site that looks solid. I'll post up my view, almost done building it.

Note: to post your own view, open it up, click (anywhere) on your desktop, hit the print screen key (Sys Rq PRINT key on BBG keyboard). Finally, paste (ctrl + v) into a blank file, like Paint. Then, upload it here or on imageshack.us and link it on this thread.

I know there's some rediculous views out there and curious what some other guys are using. If you're willing to say so, also curious what asset class/role you're in.

Harvard Scammed by 23-Year Old

mod (Andy) note: "Blast from the past - Best of Eddie" - This one is originally from May 2010. If there's an old post from Eddie you'd like to see up again shoot me a message.

You'd think creativity would count for something. Adam Wheeler, a 23-year old from Delaware, is being charged with larceny, identity theft, and fraud after faking his way into Harvard and taking the school for $45,000 in scholarships, grants, and financial aid. Step aside Jeffrey Chiang. Take a seat Aleksey Vayner. There's a new kid in the bullshitter's Cooperstown.

Wheeler didn't take any half-steps in his scam, either. He not only claimed to have earned a perfect academic record at Phillips Academy to gain admission to Harvard in 2007, he backed up the claim with a falsified transcript from MIT. He might have gotten away with it too, if he hadn't pushed the envelope by later applying for Rhodes and Fulbright scholarships.

"This defendant's actions cheated those who competed honestly and fairly for admissions and for the scholarships that this defendant fraudulently obtained," Leone said.
