MBB India VS Accenture/Deloitte (tier2) in UK?

With the way things are going, it's likely I'm going to face this situation in 3-4 months time.

What would you do? Why?

Job offer from Accenture/Deloitte (insert tier 2 consulting firm) in a country like UK/USA

VS

MBB offer in a country like India (country X comparable in terms of pay, professionalism, training, job opps, prestige, MBA school apps etc.)

My thoughts:

- MBB pay in India < ACN/Deloitte UK pay (probably)

+ Gets the brand on your resume (long run benefit)

+ Solid networking + you have credibility (long run + possibly moving to a different office in the future?)

? Not sure how MBB India training compares to UK tier 2 firms' training - any insights/experiences?

+ After 2-3 yrs of experience, MBB brand will help to get into a top MBA.

Breaking into MBB - graduate degree choices

I am doing undergrad business degree in one of the semi-target schools in Asia. Recently thinking about doing a master in MPP (at top tiers like Oxford, Columbia, LSE..) out of personal interest and i don't wanna repeat what I have studied - Business. Yet for career, i'm targeting MBB

there have been people saying that MPP aren't reli sought after by MBB and MBA is preferred. Would it be different if I already hold a undergrad degree in business (finance concentration)? If my plan works out (eg. do a MPP at Oxford) will it increase my odds of getting into the top tiers?

Any thoughts are welcome, and thanks a lot coz I'm having a dilemma on this!

Hi all,

I was wondering: for those of you who use Linkedin frequently for networking purpose. How do you know if someone is more likely to help you out just by judging their linkedin profile? (This is assuming you don't know them in real life and you are looking for a job)

Thank you all in advance for your inputs!

Hi

I just got a verbal offer from a consulting firm. I'm completely in the dark as to the level (and hence the compensation) and am extremely curious, as I applied for a post-MBA position (I'm in an MSc in Finance program) but was told that they do, sometimes, put you at a level below where you applied. I'm hoping that I don't get stuck with an undergrad-level offer as I'm through the CFA program and have some pretty good experience in finance (over 3 years if you include summers), but I'll probably take it regardless.

Consultancies with NO case interview

Hey,

I am wondering if there is a list anywhere (or if we could compile a list) of those consulting firms that do not have case interviews as part of their selection process. This doesn't apply to the vast majority of consultancies, but I know that one can get into consulting at Big 4, e.g. Deloitte, without case interviews. The same applies to Towers Watson (at least in the UK), where you have a phone interview and an assessment centre.

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

I applied for a consulting position two weeks ago as of today (Friday). Within one hour, the HR person replied and asked two follow-up questions that I replied to within an hour.

The next week, I e-mailed this person on Wednesday expressing continued interest in the position, and he replied on Friday (so last Friday) that he'd forwarded my application to the department head, he's awaiting feedback, and that "I will be in touch if we are to progress."

Now it's been one week and I haven't heard anything. Should I keep waiting, or should I send him another e-mail at some point (and if so, when? maybe next week?).

I'm really interested in this position and I think they know that. Not sure I can do anything at this point.

I am an undergrad from a non target school looking to break the barriers of entry into consulting. I will be graduating summa cum laude with all of the trimmings; including, one year of professional experience (internships), several extracurricular activities, five years of other work experience, and trained my puppy well too. I love long hours, not sleeping, and have a strong drive to succeed but need all of the advice I can get. If anyone knows of a backdoor approach to gaining an audience with an accessible consulting firm then the pen and paper is in hand.

Hey everyone.

I've been a long time reader on this site and have found a lot of the information very useful.

I'm currently an analyst at a reputable consulting firm, but by no means MBB. In a few years I'm going to apply to business school and want a well rounded profile to give myself a shot at a top program.

What would be the best way to get on the Board of Directors at a non-profit? Does anyone have some good advice on how to approach this?

Thanks

Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, decided that he wanted to buy a company to immediately increase Apple's net sales by 10% for the year ending 2012.

If the internal forecast for Apple's FY 2012 second half net sales is 120% of its 6-month total ended in March 2012, how big (in terms of revenue) must this target company be?

Apple's Total 6 months total net sales= $85,519 million

Any thoughts?

I'm a sophomore (Math major) at a target school (HYP). Although a lot of bulge brackets recruit in my school, they're all looking for Juniors. I'm just wondering, where do people intern/get a job during summer of their sophomore year? (I did summer school last summer, can't do it again..)

Hedge funds and PE firms don't really openly recruit, and management consulting firms are basically impossible to get in for a sophomore. I heard I-banking is tough for sophomores too. What did you guys do?

If i were to take this position and excel would it be an effective way to move into a good consulting company (in a few years), Ibank(perhaps after Bschool down the road), etc?

This is a question from Case-in-point:

Capacity is 12,000 pairs of flip-flops a month. Capacity equals 2 shifts a day, five days a week. Given a normal eight hour shift, what is the maximum production per shift?

The case in point explanation is "12,000 pairs a month/2 shifts a day=6,000 pairs per month. 6,000 pairs/20 work days in month=300 flip-flops per shift"

I initially did it my way, which was way more complex and arrived at the same answer. However, I think this solution is much simpler. I feel incredibly stupid for asking this, but for some reason I just can't wrap my head around it. How could you divide 12,000 pairs a month by 2 shifts per day? Anyone care to explain? Many thanks.

Hello,

I am a current 1st year law student who desperately wants to enter the consulting industry. I have always wanted to do consulting. I graduated from a respectable undergraduate business school and currently attend a top law school (top ten). What would be the best way to do this? FYI, I have high standardized tests scores and a high GPA.

1.) Should I apply for a summer program for this upcoming summer and prep with case books?

2.) Should I apply for a dual MBA with the school I am at right now or a MPA from harvard/princeton?

Thank you for your advice! Please don't ask why I am in law school when I wanted consulting. My life just ended up that way due to a personal mistakes/immaturity.

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if someone could give me some information on internship opportunities available to students who have already completed their undergraduate degrees. Would these students qualify for a summer position in consulting or investment banking? Or are internships only limited to students enrolled in a degree program? Has anyone ever been in this situation, if so, how did you secure a summer position at a BB (for investment banking) or MBB (for consulting)?

Also, do you guys think it's possible to land a summer placement by networking with some higher ups at one of these firms?

I only recently became interested in Investment Banking/ Consulting, however, I have already graduated from college and missed the campus recruitment dates.

Hey guys,

I’m currently a junior at a top-20 business program, and I’m also a pre-med student double majoring in biochemistry. I plan on graduating in five years – regardless which track I choose to pursue – so technically I’m still in my sophomore year. I recently attended a consulting career fair, and have been doing more research on the field since. I am now on the fence about whether or not I should continue on my scientific track, or commit to consulting.

Hello everyone,

Looking through these forums, I figured, this would be a good place to get a dose of brutal honesty, so I'm volunteering for the gauntlet. Basically my thought process was...'Business runs through my veins, I'm very interested in Consultancy, I know what the job is about and I'm quite certain I'd do well'. That is until, through research I figured that it would be almost impossible to get in if your not from Oxbridge, Harvard or so on, you don't stand a chance. The whole non-target thing.

Hi there,

I thought I would post this question because its been eating away at me, and hopefully consultants from all backgrounds will relate!

I'm about to start a 2 year MBA program in the U.S, coming from a few years as a undergrad at MBB. In the medium to long term I see myself in F500/industry, and I'm wondering when I should aim to make this move? Right out of B-School, or after a couple more years of consulting after B-School?

Any advice?

Cheers guys!

Also, is there any place where you can find old cases that have actually been given during past interviews at specific firms?

I'm a consulting noob whose just starting to get serious about studying for case interviews. In order to get a good foundation, I've memorized pretty much all of the CIP frameworks along with Victor Cheng's Business Situation framework.

I figured I would use Cheng's Business Situation framework as a back up when I couldn't really put my finger on what type of case it is, but I'm often confused which aspect to start with out of the 3C's and 1P. (Customer, Product, Competition, Company)

I know a lot of people say that you should look at cases and come up with your own frameworks and such, but frankly I'm just having a really hard time doing so. As a result, I have a really difficult time solving cases that deviate (even slightly sometimes) from the frameworks I've studied.

Hi there,

I have received an offer from PwC Hong Kong in their operations consulting department. I was glad to receive the offer, however, it turns out that the remuneration is rather low, at HKD10k+ per month, without any housing allowance (I am not from Hong Kong).

I was thinking whether to take up this offer, as the pay cannot even pay for my accommodation. I have spoken to my parents about this and they reluctantly agree to partially sponsor for my housing for 1 or 2 years.

Is this pay reasonable? Should I take up the offer? Is this worth the investment?
