What minor would be valuable with an Accounting major?

I go to a top 30 undergrad. I'm interested in working at a F500 company doing finance. What minor would be valuable with my Accounting major? I've been told to stay away from a Computer Science minor. Despite being familiar with the C++, Java, Python, etc. languages, I'm a bit cautious in minoring in this field due to risking my GPA.

Hey everyone I'm looking for some help regarding choosing a second concentration or minor. I want to do some kind of IB, preferably M&A. I am also considering consulting. I just finished up my sophomore year at Boston College, I'm in the school of management there. I've got a 3.5 (huge upwards trend) and I've taken over half my business core, all my regular core, and knocked out the accounting and econ classes. So from here until graduation can focus on my finance concentration classes and a second concentration or minor.

I am currently a sophomore majoring in economics at a state university and I was contemplating whether or not to pursue a minor. I heard that minoring in statistics will be beneficial but I want to know any other suggestions or advice from anybody that's gotten experience in the consulting industry.

I'm going to be a junior next year. I'm deciding what to potentially minor in. I'm an Econ major, and I'll be doing to bulk of my Econ major requirements next year. I'm deciding between minoring in something along the lines of the public sector/policy, or possibly a computer programming/Internet design type of minor.

I'm pretty sure the programming/design minor is more difficult, but it might give me a few added skills on my resume. Both the minors seem pretty interesting. Not sure which one to go with. Thoughts?

Information Technology Certificate vs. Econ Minor

Undergrad freshman here at semi-target state school (top 10 public in nation, overall, Georgia Tech). Currently pursuing a major in finance. I know minors/certificates aren't hotspots on resumes, but I am curious for my own benefit; which would be more valuable/practical for a career in IB. Econ is self-explanatory and IT would have me taking courses like Business Analytics, Systems analysis/design and MS Access database creation. Thank you.

Tried searching this question but couldn't really find one that applies to my situation...

At a non-target. Double majoring in Finance and Economics and they're making me declare a minor now even though I'm only a freshman..Minor needs to be outside of Business school...What do you guys recommend? I was thinking maybe computer science, math, stats...Not really sure

I am to the point that I am going to need to declare my minor soon, and, instead of doing the usual finance, acct, econ minors, I was wondering what some of you thought about psych or polsci minor?

These two subjects interest me, but not to the point that I would want a career in either ... I can't see myself asking some depressed person "And, how does that make you feel?" lol or some bs. Or making it up to Congress. So, a minor makes the most sense.

My goals are to get into Man. Consulting. If I could choose the firm/division, it would be Deloitte s&o.

I'm a freshman majoring in Computer Science. I'm also interested in business, entrepreneurship and finance. I'm trying to decide between a minor in Economics and Applied Math. I find both equally interesting. Would a minor in Econ help if I decide to pursue a career in technology related finance? Econ seems like the more value adding subject to learn since I'm already majoring in a technical subject. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Will a minor help me land a finance job offer?

A minor alone will not help you land an offer, however, it can help pull your story together. If you decide to major in chemistry, picking up a minor in business can help highlight your relevant background to finance recruiters. Similarly, if you are a business major who wants to work for a boutique IB focused on medicine, having a minor in chemistry could also help your case. Minors can also work in your favor by allowing you to connect with a larger group of people. For example, if you minored in German, any German speakers reviewing your resume will likely view it more favorably.

  •

Does my major matter when it comes to getting a finance job?

When choosing a major (and a career) you should always choose something that interests and excites you. However, if your ultimate goal is obtaining a job on Wall Street, majoring in something other than business, finance, economics, or mathematics may make things more difficult come recruiting season. If you top that off with no extracurricular activities or internships in the finance sector, your ability to convince finance recruiters that you are truly interested in Wall Street may be hindered even more.

Economics Major with CS Minor for last semester

I'm an economics major graduating in December from a target with a not so great GPA (~3.0) . I'm in my last semester and to finish my Computer Science minor I need to take 2 more classes this semester. These classes are BRUTAL. I'm wondering if I should stick it out and risk maybe getting a B- or C+ or just switch out and forget the minor and take two classes I want to take in finance or something.

There is also a chance that I do so poorly in one that I have to switch one of them to Pass/Fail and then don't get the minor anyways. I've already started applying with the minor listed on my resume. Does it even matter at this point to have the minor? If i take the classes and switch one to Pass/Fail but don't techinically receive the minor from my school, will it matter?

FAQ: Will a minor help me land an offer?

A minor alone will not help you land an offer, however it can help pull your story together. If you enjoy chemistry and decided to do your major in that, picking up a minor in business can help show your interest in the field. Conversely, if you are a business major who wants to work for a boutique IB focused on medicine, having a minor in chemistry will help show that it truly interests you and you have some context to put the work in. It can also work in your favor by allowing you to connect with a larger group of people. If you minored in German, anyone reviewing your resume is going to have a connection to you and that may earn you an interview.

im a rising sophomore in college, majoring in finance. im trying to decide what classes to take next semester and beyond. would it make a difference to banks and recruiters if they see me pursue a sociology minor (20 units) or would it not be much different if i just took random electives instead?

i am already pursuing a chinese minor (though i am chinese). while the sociology minor classes all seem decently easy, im sure i could find many more easier classes at my school.

help would be much appreciated

Would it matter what my minor is for future jobs in IB? Is it okay if I minor in something I'm interested in related to the social sciences like history or philosophy (the department at NYU is really good for this), rather than something related to my major of finance like math, computer science, or something along those lines? Would it show lack of commitment to finance (I doubt it but still)?

Thanks for your advice in advance.

I'm a sophomore Economics major at a relatively unknown non-target with a 3.95 GPA and 2200+ SAT scores. I'll also be studying abroad at one of (Oxford, Cambridge) next semester (would rather not give too much outable info).

I need to decide on a minor (I will be taking 2 minor classes while abroad) relatively soon. I'm interested in Political Science or Philosophy but I feel as though Finance may be more marketable for Finance jobs.

Obviously, if I were at Harvard, I would be able to major in English with a minor in History and still be able to get Goldman Sachs.

However, I'm at a pretty unknown college. Will a Finance minor give me enough of a boost for post-college employment (not necessarily I-banking) to make it worthwhile?

Thanks.

Changing Accounting Major to a Minor??

I'm currently a junior at a semi to non-target in Texas. I have a good GPA, good resume, good work experience, and a SA spot lined up with a BB. I just got out of advising and to maintain my Fin/Acct doulbemajor, I'll have to take 18 and 21 hours my senior year of college. This is on top of working. The classes that differentiate the minor form the major are Advanced Accounting, Audit, and RIsks and COntrols (AIS). How big of a difference would it be on the resume to have a double major vs a Major and a minor, assuming I have a good resume otherwise. Would it be a dealbreaker on whether or not I get an interview come FT season or future opportunitites? PLease help me out, iI've been trying to decide whether or not to do this for a while.

Do bschool adcoms care about a minor? Need three more classes for my minor, but I'm not trying to do too much work my last semester.

Also, is underloading my credit hours my last semester going to hurt my bschool chances?

I'm going to get flamed for being so paranoid, but my concerns are what they are. I'd appreciate any serious replies.

I'm a Sophomore Accounting/Finance major at a semi-target trying to get into BB-IB next year as an SA. I'm a transfer student so I have to get through a lot of requirements, but I have room for three more electives. I can either use these to minor in econ or instead study abroad fall of my senior year (Japan) and take classes that won't apply to the minor. From a standpoint of recruiting and interviewing for SA positions next spring, would it look better to have that econ minor (on top of acct/fin) or should I say screw it and study abroad and maybe have something extra to talk about in an interview.

I'm currently a freshman at Duke and would like to go into investment banking after school. My advisor is beginning to ask what I am thinking about majoring in. I would like to do econ but from what I hear from my classmates, playing a varsity sport and majoring in econ will be rough here. Is it worth it to major in econ and put my gpa at risk or should I major in something a little easier that will not affect my gpa in a negative way. Some other majors I am considering are history or sociology. If you all could help me out that would be great. Thank you.

How much do banks care about your major/minor?

So as I am making my schedule, I am facing a dilemma. I place out of many introductory level credits with my AP credits and so I have started to think about a possible minor. Eventually, I want to go into banking, consulting, or corporate finance. Therefore, I feel a statistics minor would be relevant and useful for me. At the same time, in looking at the median grades for the classes required for this minor, I am scared of lowering my GPA.

Which do you guys feel banks would care about more? The added knowledge and experience of having that minor, or a higher GPA but solely one major and no minor?

I might also have the choice of taking the class pass/fail. Would this be a wise decision or is that generally looked down upon?
