Great questions to ask on a first date...

So I was reading through this piece somewhere about how online dating is amazing and how effective its been. With it, a piece accompanied it talking about great questions to ask on a first date. And it was the biggest pile of crap I've ever read. They were as generic as they come and will no way lead to getting laid if thats the end goal.

As we're a pretty young group on here, I was wondering what questions you guys usually like to ask on a first date? Hopefully it'll make for an interesting discussion.

I usually go for three:

1 ) An embarrassing story - helps me connect with someone and if its humorous, all the better.

2) Whether she likes to read - simply for compatibility purposes. I'm a big reader so enjoy discussing it

Using online dating sites

I just moved into NYC for a new job and its been consuming so much time that I've barely been able to go out. I asked a friend to set me up with a friend of hers but that didnt go well. A few of my colleagues and the fact that my brother married his wife after meeting online has kinda prompted me to go in that direction. I'm a little apprehensive. I'm not sure what to expect. I was wondering what you guys have been doing, those with serious time issues, in relation to dating?

Has anyone ever tried it? Any level of success? Is the social stigma still attached from when I was in college?

I think the thing I'm worried about is how some of these women are immediately expecting a long-term commitment because of the 'no-fail' nature of it.

Any tips guys? Thanks!

I love online poker. I used to play full tilt all during school and basically up until the fiasco where it turned out to be a ponzi scheme. Luckily, I didn't have any money in there at that point so I felt like I dodged a bullet. The other day, It appears that poker starts swooped into the rescue buying and paying out the claims to the tune of $731 million dollars. That includes settling a civil suit, repaying player claims and buying whatever was left of the full tilt brand.

Have a 3.1ish GPA as a sophomore at a nontarget. This summer I'll be at a fairly respected boutique and was just wondering if there was any way I could sign up for courses at a target school to boost my GPA and have it look legit on my resume. Also, would there by any chance be access to OCR?

The online GS application has non-mandatory sections where you can fill in things such as leadership experience, AP scores, etc. There are also mandatory fields, like cover/motivation letter (where you have to copy/paste, can't upload), etc.

Do you actually fill these out, and does it even matter? I thought the screeners just look at your resume to pick first rounds.

FYI: I go to a target and I'm applying through OCR as well.

J.P. Morgan - Online Numerical Reasoning test (London, UK)

Hi everyone,

I just received an email to complete an online numerical reasoning test for J.P. Morgan after applying to their London, UK office.

a) Is everyone automatically invited to do this test or has the application pool been given a first cut already?

b) What % of people do they cut with this?

c) Any advice/resources? Has anyone done JPM's test?

I am from North America, so I have never had to do anything like this before. Any advice is appreciated!

Hey guys,

I got invited by OW FS to do the online numerical test (30 questions in 20 min). Aside from the difficulty of the test, the website was REALLY slow (I was loosing 20+ seconds per question when I pressed the 'next' button and the page actually started loading).

On top of that, after question 10 I was redirected to a blank page and had to refresh the browser, consequently losing even more time.

In the end I was only able to answer 6 questions out of 30, which will most likely not be enough...

I was wondering if any of you have had this experience with Oliver Wyman's tests and if there is any chance I can retake it. I already sent HR an e-mail explaining the situation but no response yet.

I'm doing a side project right now where I'm helping a CEO, who wants to start buying companies with his personal capital that are <$50mm revenues and $1-10mm EBITDA.

Aside from generating proprietary deal flow from networking and cold calling, I might point him towards some online deal databases/resources. What are the best listings sites that are out there (or are they all junk?)

Thanks

I have to complete a series of online Excel lectures/exams for my summer internship. Only a few are required with the rest being recommended. I would like to skip the "recommended" ones as they are quite tedious. Do your bosses see your results? Will HR flag you for scoring just over the minimum exam score consistently?

I know this may seem trivial, but I'm just a typical type A over-analyzer.

Hi everyone. I am currenty a senior in college and my school online internship/ job network is terrible.

I recently started applying online trough the carreer section corporate websites for internships.
I applied to 8 internships and none of them got back to me. No rejection letter or anything.

Do they even check the applications that come through the website??? or am i wasting my time because each application takes around 20-30 minutes.

I know that this topic has come up before.
But it seems like no one has a definite answer to it.
Some people say "you are gonna annoy HRs so don't do it"
Some people say "you can increase your chances by creating multiple accounts"

So my question is if I am applying for same division but different locations,
do same HR people receive my apps? (ex. S&T for same bank but in HK and Singapore)

If anyone has an answer or wanna jump in for advice plz do so!

Gluck to everyone who's searching for FT and SA!!

I submitted resumes online for 2 different positions at a regional bank.

I got an email back the next day that I would not be considered for the first position. (I didnt realize it was a second year analyst position...oops). But I haven't heard anything about the other position at all. Is this common? There is no way to check the status of my application or anything like that so I was curious as to how long it usually takes to get an answer or if its up to whatever divison you applied to.

Thanks in advance.

I am considering taking a summer (online) class from either a community college or state university. Note, I will have already graduated from college.

I have done well as an undergrad, and was wondering if not getting an A in this class would look bad for bschool admissions. Would I even have to send transcripts from this school? Assume that I will take it for credit.

Thanks!

Am curious, what is the likelihood of landing an interview for an IB BB or boutique firm (Associate role), through an online application on the firm webpage, without any contacts/networking.

Anyone?
