Has anyone found success applying for a position when you are under qualified in some way? Namely if you do not meet the student status requirement.

Qualifications for fund managers?

Hello everyone!

I'd like to become a fund manager in the future. I have discovered I will have to retake level 3 of the CFA exam next year, and there is a full year to wait for that. Furthermore, there are a lot of people with that qualification these days. I therefore think I would like to study for sth additional in the meantime.

So everyone, please tell me if you have a strong feeling about the following:

1) What sort of qualification these days would make me truly stand out from the crowd? (since CFA and MBA are now very common)
- I think I'd prefer a qualification that teaches me something that would directly improve my job performance, and that can also be usefully applied in a major emerging market.
- Does any online MBA in investment management exist?

Corporate Finance Qualification

Hi guys,

Do you have any insight about the Corporate Finance Qualification offered by the ICAEW?
Since I'm currently working in CF in a Big 4, after rejecting an FT in a BB (may God kill me for this), but I'm considering trying to move to the banking side in 3-4 years , I was wondering if this qualification can help me to make the move.
I've seen some job openings for associate position within BBs and Top Tier Boutique specifically targeted at ACA or CFQ but, since the CFQ is quite new, I cannot find any decent feedback on the net.

Did any of you sit for the first step (certificate in corporate finance)?

Edit:

I wonder about the following and appreciate any help:

How can I make sense of the following mappings:

requirements at Job -> job descriptrion <-> resume <- skills I have

I mean, requirements of the job are like:
- excellent communicaiton skills
- advanced excel VBA
- programming Python, C/C++
- background in this and that

Well, I don't have any experience in the field. So I just wonder, what these terms mean.

Most of my knowledge is textbook knowledge, since I don't usually use excel for my personal issues.

I program for about 12 years in various languages, but have not held any job that would require me to use these skills.

If I don't know what is required in the first place, I can't really write down that I have advanced VBA skills.

Difficulty of FRM versus CFA

Has anyone taken the FRM? I was curious as to how it matches up difficulty wise to the CFA. I know it is much more quant based but haven't heard much detail on this.

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

How Competitive is HR

Hey guys, I'm a new poster here (been a reader for a while), and I've always wondered how competitive a job in HR is. Is it a joke to get a job in HCM or HR at a BB, or are these applicants almost as qualified as the front office people they recruit? This is a serious question, because I heard a girl who work in HR at a BB tell me that she could have gotten a front office role in S&T or IBD, but that she just relished interacting with people all day. I laughed in her face, but perhaps there is some merit to her assertion. Any thought or opinions that could shed light on this would be much appreciated.
