The other road

I recently came across this video and until now I decided to share it with you guys. It has really made me think about the things I do, why I do them, whether or not I really should be doing these things that I am doing and to what extent to they matter to me and to the ones around me.

Below is the youtube video of Dr. Richard Teo.

When analyzing a potential investment, many of us follow similar guidelines: Pursue stocks with sound management and a clear business strategy, and avoid stocks with ethical red flags and legal entanglements. In other words, find a company you respect.

Barron’s recently released its annual survey asking institutional investors to rate their level of “respect” for each of the world’s 100 largest companies by market cap, and the results are in: Apple retains the top spot for the second straight year.

In general, this year’s results show an investor appreciation for pedigreed U.S.-based multinationals, which echoes the dramatic outperformance of domestic stocks amid the past year's global tumult, and the more recent outperformance of quality mega-cap shares as global growth expectations have softened.

Which company do you admire the most? Here are the 5 most important attributes of a “respected” company, followed by this year’s Top 10:

Taking a quick time out from the hustle and bustle of early earning season, I want to share something with you guys. Namely, I grew up a die hard Mets fan and had to endure some really terrible seasons at the old Shea Stadium. Those were the days when an ambitious young scallywag and his tab of outer borough cronies could easily sneak a quarter-keg into Shea's vapid upper deck. Provided off course, if one of them was willing to sit in one of the busted wheel chairs that could be found strolling about Corona Park in the New York summer heat. One large blanket over the lap later, we were comfortably nestled in those creaky foldouts, boozing away with nothing around us for 10,000 seats or more.

MD doesn't capitalize my name :(

Got staffed on a deal.

The MD doesn't capitalize my name when he mentions me in "Reply To All" e-mails :( He capitalizes the names of his partners and people from target organization. So when everyone forwards e-mails around, my name starts with lower-case.

Feels bad :(

Do you think it is appropriate to send to everyone (my MD, partner of his boutique, 3 buyout partners, and a few people from target) this email?

"Hello,

My name is Puss in Boots and I don't appreciate when my first name is not capitalized. Being an intern doesn't make me a lesser human being. I have achieve a lot for my young age, and I am well ahead of 98.3% of my peers. Please show some dignity and respect.

Thank You,
Puss."

Also there is this HR chick (5'5'', 33D, 130-135lbs) I really want to hook up with. I think my e-mail will show her that I am an alpha male with lots of confidence.

What should I do?

Hey Monkeys,

I recently started a position as a equity research analyst, only been on the job for 3 months. A similar bank, that is located in my home town recently posted a position identical to my current position. I would like to move back to where I grew up, but I feel that I owe something to my current bank. Is it wrong to apply for the job, or talk to IR at the other bank? How much will this damage my reputation in the industry?

If you think I should contact the IR can you give me some advice on how to be discreet. Also please tell me your experience in the industry so I know what angle I am getting advice from.

Ciao,
Faye
