Hi! Resume question here

For a certain college club I'm very involved in, I was just a member of the club for about a semester, but afterwards had 2 leadership positions, one more important than the other. How should i represent all my experience with the club? I don't want to list everything (member - position x - position y . . ) because it takes up a lot of room, but I'm not sure what I should take out.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I got accepted into an asset management case study conference at a regional firm. Considering how many people apply and how few get accepted (less than 50), is it worth it to mention this on my CV?

The study consists of working with a small group to present our case on a specific company, and whether or not they should invest in said company. Obviously research is involved

If I do include this on my resume, what section should it be listed under?

Volunteering

Since I am home for the summer stacking up on credits while working a related internship, I thought it would be a good idea to rack up some volunteering experience for the resume during the weekends. The end goal is to break into consulting next year before I graduate.

My question: What relevant organizations take on volunteers?

I have already volunteered at SCORE as a Certified Mentor. I can go back but I was wondering if there are any other organizations I should be looking at before returning.

Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

I've been working as an independent consultant for the last year. In this time, I've had a number of clients that are geographically varied. My question is: on my resume, shall I list these clients? There are about 4, and one or two are names worth mentioning - one being a startup that's been in the news recently, and the other being a a large international organization akin to the UN. How does one put this on a resume? Bearing in mind that space is limited.

Thanks!

Adding lead-left IPO on resume

Silly request. I worked on a lead left IPO that closed a couple of months ago and I'm going to add it to my resume. Can anybody who has worked on one post the bullets they put on their resume? Obviously you should redact company name, etc. Would really only be helpful if you were on the left since in my experience the other bookrunners do virtually nothing at the junior level.

Thanks

Listing Real Estate on Resume

Hi Monkeys! I'm hoping to make a move to RE PM and I wanted to list my real estate investment (approx 200k equity) on my resume. I've been leasing the investment since 2009, and also made a spreadsheet w/ an amortization schedule that changes depending on my prepayments and where I think interest rates will go. Should this go under interests or is it worthy to have its own line item? Thanks!

Hi everyone! I'm currently a sophomore at a semi-target. This summer I am planning on studying abroad in Asia but I get back to the States a month and a half before school starts.

Now the issue is, what to do in that month? I probably won't be able to land a legitimate internship so my plan for now is to apply for a retail job just to occupy my time. Should I put this experience (likely flipping burgers or working in a store) on my resume? I already have some decent internship experience from last summer at a relatively well known financial services firm. I'm afraid the new "lesser" experience will take up the prime spot of my better experience from earlier. What do I do?

Thanks for your help!

Real quick question for the experts:

I am working at a privately held company with very closely guarded financials. If I were to send my resume out, how would you go about doing so without comprimising the integrity of the company's #'s? Would I say I created the $100MM budget or would I write out $XXXMM and does one look better one way or another?

Hey y'all

I'm new in this forum and I would appreciate any recommendation regarding my resume. I'm graduating this coming May with a Finance degree. When I graduate I will be heading to the DC area and applying (already have been) to all entry level financial analyst, advisor, IB, corporate finance, consulting, you name it. My work experience is from the corporate headquarters of a major bank in the S&P 500, granted in the mortgage division. My major GPA is around a 3.4.

So far I have received an offer from the bank I have worked for although the pay not what I imagined receiving right out of college, it is just not enough. I have great interviewing skills so I just want my resume to get through the first process and I can excel after that.

So, here's my resume.

There are two points under experience that I am going to fill out after this summer. Don't worry about that.

One of my questions now is where should I put my test scores? I originally had them bulleted in my undergrad, but moved them to the bottom because it seemed a little out of place. But at the same time, I don't want them to get lost in the mess of interests/bottom of the page filler. My undergrad gpa was not good (3.1), so I'm trying to make up for that somehow. Do you think it would look bad in place of "Dean's List: 7 semesters?"

Also, any other critiques are more than welcome.

Thanks

Sorry to disappoint, but I am a guy.

Now that I have your attention, Please kindly help review my resume.

I am currently at senior at an non-target University. I will be graduating on December, 2013. As of right now, I still do not know what I want to get into. After looking at my resume, I hope everyone could help me answer the following 4 questions:

1). How competitive is my resume? and what are my career options?

2). On my last semester in college, would it be more wise to focus on job search or more beneficial to have another internship.

3). How bad is my GPA? ( I am Asian, Yes I know its terrible to have an 3.4), since I plan to get an MBA in 2 years

4). What field/industry would you suggest me going into to give me the highest return based on my resume?

Hello Monkeys,

Apologies in advance if this offends anyone. I'm just looking for some practical advice here...

While I am white, I have a last name that can easily be construed as Asian. In some social occasions, I have met people in person (after having been in touch through email), and they were surprised that I was white.

My question is whether this could count against me on my resume.

I've been thinking about including my long, Scottish-sounding middle names on my resume to make it clear.

Any thoughts and advice are welcome. Thanks.

Well, unless you are currently living in the southern hemisphere south of the tropical zone , indeed you know that winter is not coming any time soon. But the newest season of Game of Thrones is most certainly upon us. If this forum is any indication, there are at least a few of you who have been anticipating this for about a year now (ok, 306 days, but who’s counting?) I, for one, can’t wait. People everywhere vying for positions of power, alliances being forged and broken, backstabbing, intrigue, coercion, indiscretion, dishonesty, back-alley deals, and frigging DRAGONS!

Looking back, what do you wish you had known when writing your CV/cover letter? and contains some great advice for writing your resume/cover letter. Feel free to share our own advice/tips. Click here to see more top rated comments.

  • Don't feel the need to write everything you did down. Write your cv like you are designing an advertisement, what's the one or two details about you that the firms absolutely needs to know? Spend most of the page detailing those sections, shortening less import sections.
  • Formatting isn't about just looking good, you need to use it to direct the attention of the reader. Copying m&i format is a start but ideally you should make formatinf changes that help you reflect what's most important on your cv. Example, low gpa? Make it less noticeable by putting it right behind your degree title all in italics. Excessive italics will tire the readers eyes and possibly make him skip for the more emphsized sections mentioned above.
