Fund-Less Sponsors / Co-investors

The firm I work for invests its own fund, partners with investors, co-invests, and acts as a fund-less sponsor. Is there a general consensus on this type of experience? I feel like it does not matter where the money comes from; The experience and $ value of transactions is the same.

Also, the firm is partnered with a top-tier financial firm that has committed to provide a large amount of capital to finance transactions. How can I get this on a resume? Is there a standard? I know that experience is what matters, but I expect it would help to have the name when applying to Carlyle-level firms.

Considering how much their Director asks of me at 10pm on a Saturday, I feel like I should try to squeeze this name as much as possible. We do 100% of the work on these deals.

I was wondering if anyone out there had any experience working at a small hedge fund ($500M and below). Obviously every fund is different but I was wondering if there were some strengths / weaknesses that were common to all, especially in the current market.

Take the 30M hedge fund analyst offer? - sort of exploding

Hey all,

I received the opportunity to be a junior analyst at a 30M equity value oriented fund (which has been around for 8 years, and has grown from 5 million. Only me and the PM (and a general operations person.) The PM said he will "train me" a bit, but expects me to pick up a lot on my own based on watching/listening to him on calls etc. Salary is what i'm making now at big4.

I am 2 years out of a non-target school, big 4 valuation background (CPA). I am taking CFA Lvl 1 in December.

I would ultimately like to be successful within the HF industry, would only use I-Banking to get to HF, only use ER to get to HF etc. I've been receiving a few solid interviews within research/banking at relatively brand name places, but no offers yet.

Hello, I have an interview for an internship with a small hedge fund tomorrow. Does anyone have experience with what they will ask (Behavioral/Technical or both)? Any advice will be nice. By the way, I am going into my senior year at a non target if that makes any difference. Thanks

What are the advantages and disadvantages of working as an analyst right out of undergraduate at a very small growth equity PE firm that targets companies with 10-100mn in revenue. Would this be a really good option coming from a non-target?

Ok, so I am likely going to accept an offer in the next couple weeks for an analyst gig at small (5-6 man) boutique starting this summer, and I am slightly concerned about how much I am expected to know in regards to modelling. My specific concerns stems from the fact that I will not be going through a formal training program, and that the one current analyst, who is on his way out, will likely be gone by the time I arrive. I feel fairly comfortable with my skills through internship experience and work on my own, but I would still consider myself a relative beginner. I think my confidence during the interview process about my skills, and general modeling knowledge gave off the impression that I was quite adept, and could handle most scenarios.

Before you jump down my throat with "if you want the money, you have to work for it" comments, please hear me out. I fully understand what I am getting into in this industry. Long hours. But what about end of the spectrum opposite New York BB? Specifically, what kind of hours/lifestyle could one expect at some of the tiny (10-15 guys) boutiques in Houston? Would the hours be less? If so, by how much?

Again, I get it, IBers work a lot. But there must be some variation along the spectrum.

Does a MS ML or UBS internship have even remotely the same ring when the interviewer for a FT position sees Small State Capital (1mil people), Medium State instead of NYC, NY or Charlotte, NC or something like that?

Hello, I'm looking to branch out of my current PWM internship (2nd one) and into something more substantial. Would anyone happen to know any firms, it doesn't matter how small, that would willingly take in an unpaid intern for the current semester? I am looking into small HF firms, IB firms, almost anything that is not PWM related.

I would appreciate anyone who has had an internship offcycle at one of these firms and would be willing to spare information or advice.

Thanks

I recently received an offer from a small IB in NYC. What can I expect as far as salary, relocation bonus, etc. The SA is sort of a prelude to a FT offer at the end of the summer. Is this done often? How do bonuses work in a situation like this? Thanks for the help

Night Interview on Thursday with Hedge Fund. What to prepare for?

So I have an interview scheduled with a small hege fund. I doubt it will be any technicals because this particular fund uses an algorithm to trade. Everything (when to buy/sell) is all computerized and there are alarms/alerts notifying the trader when to execute the trade.

Also, what should I wear? It's a small shop with only 5 guys total. When I go for my interview it will just be the night trader who works the Asian/European Markets. I was thinking of wearing a suit just to be cautious but I don't want to come off as too formal when meeting just one guy in what appears to be a more laid back firm.

I appreciate the help.
