Quick background:

Rising sophomore at a complete non-target in the Northeast. Was a Computer Science major my freshman year, had a bad year/hated CS, ended the year with a 2.8~ GPA. I am very active on campus (Sector Head for campus investment club, tutor, technology club, etc). I'm going to be a RA this upcoming year, as well as switching to a Financial Economics major (which I'm fairly confident that I can get a 4.0 in without any problems).

Study Abroad Resume? Need some help.

Hey WSO,

I am beginning to apply to some of the BB summer internship programs in NYC and I would like your take at my resume and whether it will make the cut or at least attract a few glances. My issue with applying to these internships is that I am studying abroad next semester and would like your opinions on what I should do with my resume.

1. What should I place for my address? Because I no longer live in NY I no longer have that address. Should I place my Chinese address, my old NY address or my hometown address?

2. Should I include my study abroad education on my resume despite not having completed it? The format also looks a little funky and I ask because if they do interview me I will have completed part/all of the program.

Hey all --

Has anybody already done UBS President's summer internship designed for sophomores?
If so, what was your experience? Grunt work is expected.
The website says successful applicants will have first-hand experience among different divisions and enhance analytical and communication skills.

Thank you for any input!

Just finished my freshman summer, I did a BB PWM internship.

Going forward, what should I be aiming to land for next summer? I go to a non-target and I'm not a URM so I don't think I'd have a chance at any BB sophomore programs.

My goal is to intern at a Tech or Media focused boutique next summer in NYC(I'm from Manhattan). How possible is this and what can I do to make this happen?

How do I handle this situation?

I need some advice on my sophomore summer internship.

I have an offer from a large HF in a back office position. However, I have been talking to a MD of a MM bank, and I would greatly prefer a position there this summer.

The MD tentatively offerred me a position last week. He said something along the lines of "worst case scenario we could have you on in an unpaid capacity spreading comps etc." He told me that he would take the weekend to think about what his intern needs would be for the summer and get back to me early this week.

I followed up with the MD today (just shot him an email letting him know that I need to figure out what my plans are for the summer by this week and that I am still very interested).

I haven't heard back from him yet, but I assume he is pretty busy.

What to do?

I am a sophomore at a target, and I started cold emailing some boutique/MM banks this week looking for any summer opportunities that they might have available. I am starting to get some emails from some of the banks saying that they aren't entirely sure of their summer need, but they would like to set up a phone interview/conversation.

However, yesterday I was offered a position in a back office group at a large hedge fund.

A MM summer internship would definitely be more relatable for junior year IB recruiting. However, it is not a sure thing, and if I take the HF position I will at least have something to do this summer.

How should I handle this situation?

Sophomore Summer

I am a sophomore at a target with an ok gpa (3.6). However, I have had very little luck finding an internship for this summer. I got interviews with a PE firm, hedge fund, and MM bank, but I did not receive any offers. Right now my plan is to take classes over the summer and boost my gpa to 3.7 which is pretty feasible since I have a lot of easy requirements left to take.

My question is how much of my job search difficulty was because I am a sophomore. Did that play a big role in the fact that I didn't get many interviews or offers? Should I expect to fare better next year?

I am just pretty discouraged right now and trying to think ahead.

Thanks.

Sophomore Resume

Hey guys, here is my resume. I would love some feedback on what I can improve upon/change to help me land a solid summer internship.

http://www.razume.com/documents/16655

I have a couple of specific questions:
1. I have a full tuition merit scholarship that I received when I graduated high school. It was a local scholarship (my high school gives out one every year to a high achieving student). Should I put this anywhere on my resume? If so where would I put it?

2. I am at a loss about what to put for the "interests" section at the bottom of my resume. Honestly, I don't have many hobbies except for playing music (which is already listed) and rooting for my sports teams. What is appropriate to put here?

Sophomore Summer

Hey guys,

I just finished my freshman year at a target university. I did ok in my classes; I got a 3.7. I am currently interning at a large private company, but I ultimately want to end up in IB. I was curious about when I should start searching for internship opportunities for next summer. When should I start cold calling and emailing?

Also, I know that PWM/AM positions are really popular for freshman and sophomores, but I was wondering where HF and PE positions would fit in.

As I understand right now, boutique IB positions are best if the student is interested in IB his junior year, but these positions are hard to find. Are PE or HF positions better than PWM for students looking to get into IB? How would these positions compare to boutique IB positions?

Thanks for the help.
