Hi, is there anyone who had prior experience be able to provide me with detailed aspects of the Final Round Interview for ICAP at the Assessment Center? The position is just a Junior rotational Internship Programme. I've read other posts on various forums and it seems like there are quantitative exams,a panel interview, and a group project? Any help and specifics would be great!

I'm currently a junior at a top public state (non-target) school in the Southeast and I'm looking to land a summer internship. A few middle market banks in the area hold interest meetings that I will be attending to hopefully land a SI offer. My major is Financial Management (CF emphasis), and I know a few people at a very good IB around the area. The only internship that this bank offers is a Portfolio Management SI to students at my school - they recruit IB at a few other, more prestigious schools. Would it be possible for me to get into the IBD even though I'm non-target? Also, could some of you with experience tell me what this Portfolio Management role would be like?

Just made some updates to my resume, looking for a summer trading internship.

I go to a non-target, econ and finance major with math minor. Looking for some feedback, harsh critique is welcome. I really appreciate it.

Thanks for the help.

Update: Included Couchy's advice, shortened it up to read faster by removing some bullets and rewriting some sentences. Also bolded some words and phrases in my bullets and technical skills.

I have 2 summer internship (London) offers for the IB divisions at DB and BAML and would really appreciate some advice.

I really liked DB's culture and the way they go about their business, the division has a great team of people. They seemed very supportive and they really focus on the personal development of interns/analysts. I also find DB to be more prestigious but that's just purely down to my personal subjective opinion.

Reneging consequences for MBB?

I interned at tech F500 in engineering this summer and received a return offer with a rather short deadline. I was forced to accept the offer while still interviewing for MBB consulting since I didn't have anything else and the offer was too good to pass up. I received the MBB offer a couple weeks later and I'm planning to accept it.

Will there be any consequences in the background check if I renege on the tech offer? I am not planning to tell the tech firm that I'm leaving for consulting, and haven't told the MBB firm that I'm reneging either. How should I actually go about letting the other firm know? E-mail vs phone?

Morgan Stanley Groups in London, Confused

Hi, young monkey here who is in talks with MS LDN/FRA

I was wondering if anyone knows which MS IBD groups are considered best in London.

How is it divided anyway?

1)Products: M&A, CapMarkets, Securitized Products...

2)Industries: TMT, Transportation, RE, HC...

3)Countries: Nordics, CEE...

Am I wrong here?

I dont really understand in which group can an analyst in London end up. Are there so many groups, or is M&A integrated in other groups? Or can you do the pure M&A, regardless of the industry/country etc.? I dont understand what deals would be that group getting, confused here :\

Many thanks guys!

Are there summer finance internships for freshmen and sophomores?

There are a number of ways to get finance experience as a freshman or sophomore in college. While it is definitely more difficult to get an official summer internship at an investment bank, for example, it is still very possible to get some sort of internship. Many of the BBs offer IB boot camp programs for underclassmen and there are also a number of diversity-focused programs.

Political Risk Internship 2013

Goal: Land a political risk internship (US or international) in the summer of 2013.

Rising junior with a 3.8 at a non-target--Arabic, French and MENA studies major. Studying abroad in Morocco (best school there) for this entire year. Advanced Arabic, advanced Spanish, professional French fluency. Only relevant experience is unpaid blogging--paid positions not relevant. Possibly doing unpaid work at school think tank (MENA economic and foreign affairs focus).

How do I get there? And to where should I look?

[Best case scenario is internship in Europe, but any location would also work]

Interning at a firm and getting ready for junior year next year.

The thing is...the work I get comes sporadically. I would get something to do, finish it, and then for the next ___ hours (or one/two days), I would literally have nothing meaningful to do. I go up to some of the full-time guys and ask if there's anything I can help them with. Either they have nothing for me, or they prefer to work on it themselves.

Now, I didn't screw up any of the previous work they've given me, so it's not like they think I'm incompetent or anything like that. I've learned a lot since I started but I really don't like just sitting there with no tangible work. So far, during my downtime I've been reading the news, checking out my LinkedIn for networking, looking at old documents...etc etc etc.

Help a sophmore looking to get into IB (Semi-target)

I am going to be a sophmore at what I guess you can classify as a semi-target (Most of our students go the Big Four route, but a few BBs like GS recruit on campus for both S/T and IB, but at a very limited number). What steps do you think I should take to get into IB?

My Background:

GPA: 3.85/4.00

Current Internship: Working with a F500 company in their finance department, specifically with their coorperate development and Management Reporting teams.

Activities at school:

Analyst for a student managed fund
--We manage $500,000 through a top-down approach. Use Bloomberg terminals and the ability to network with the best firms from OCR before other students can.

President of M&A Club
--Educate members on M&A process, and the larger field of IB,VC, and P/E.

I'm finding that I have a lot of extra time, with nothing meaningful to occupy it. I work every weekday from 9-3ish at my BB, exercise for an hour or so every day, and work as a barback a few nights a week.

This leaves me with lots of free time, so I'm looking for useful/interesting ways to fill it. I considered looking for a 3rd job, but the hours for my other two jobs are pretty erratic, so I wouldn't want to try and balance all three. I've considered improving my Russian, or maybe learning more about programming languages.

Whatever I decide to do, it should be educational and useful in some way. The BEST situation would be something that'd make me some extra money, along with being educational and useful.

Any ideas, WSO?

I have to obtain (not compile) a database for accountants and attorneys that meet specific creterias. There will be a cost and my firm will cover it. The issue is, I am having trouble finding the databases. I got a few decent leads but not sure about quality. I need to find a database of attorneys that meet these very specific descriptions

-Need first name, last
-name of firm
-specialty of accountant (not firm) - anything business, corporate related
-region they work in (nyc area less manhattan, long island area)
-email of attorney (not firm) - VERY IMPORTANT
-address of firm

The same applies to accountants. I have access to capiq and my boss says see if i can use it to find an "exportable" database so I don't waste time making one myself. Is there a way to do this.

Now that Memorial Day Weekend has come and gone, it’s about time for eager upper classmen to start their Summer Analyst stints. Having gone through a Summer Analyst program myself and having managed a number of SAs, both good and bad, I’d like to offer some advice to this year’s class of interns.

Without further ado, here are things to do and things to avoid if you want to end the summer with a job offer in-hand.

First, my top five to-dos:

I am an undergrad and after some cold calling and networking have been invited for an interview with a middle market P.E. firm for a summer position. I finally got back home and some time to let of steam after finals and basically hell week(s). I am trying to prepare but this I feel like this will be substantially different from my earlier equity research and investment management interviews.

I have been trying to prepare but am still not sure if I fully understand how to do an LBO properly, I think I got a DCF down. Also, I had a college class which had me do myriads of case analysis but not sure if I could handle something like that or prepare in the short term.

Hi, I've read these forums for a while and they helped me with interview prep and to some extent getting interviews. The sad and pathetic part is, I have no summer position lined up and don't know what to do now.

I had about 4 different interviews over a long time frame and failed to receive an offer. I did get one offer from a firm in October but it was unpaid and they wanted a response in a week but I had second round interviews at two other firms so I declined.

I failed one interview in the second round and the remaining two in the third (one of the firm's was only hiring 2 people out 15).

Now, I have no clue what to do considering I have no summer position and am graduating in December.

I'm looking for some information on the group's reputation and exit opps. I also have an offer from a BB, but it's for a summer finance analyst program that appears to be more of a BO/MO position. I'm not sure if I'd be more interested in AM or IB, but if I wanted to break into IB, which opportunity do you think would provide more leverage?

Hello monkeys,

A little about myself first. I am a sophomore at target looking for a summer internship. I have previously completed a f500 internship after my freshmen year, and a BB PWM internship during the school year. I recently sent out a wave of cold emails and did a round of cold calls to boutiques, and got a surprisingly high response rate.

I'm in the following situation and need advices on how to follow up. So I'm a graduating senior at a target, originally due to graduate in June. The thing is, I did not intern last summer so this summer I went for S&T SA recruitment, stating on my resume that I'm graduating 2013 Jan, doing an extra term.

Today I received my S&T offer from a BB, what I want is to graduate in June and not doing the extra term (do not want to pay tuition, tired of study etc) But I went through the whole process as if I would graduate in 2013 Jan...

Tried everything possible. Applications, interviews, talking to people on Linkedin, cold calling boutiques, etc.

Till now I only received either rejections or applications still under consideration. I am quite worried because some of my peers had already received internship offers.

Anything else to keep me occupied during the summer? I could study for the CFA Level II exams but that ends in Jun. For the rest of the summer, I don't know what I should do. I could read up more on the financial industry but I don't think that is something good to write about in resumes.

Anyone having the same problem as me? :(

I'm looking to enter Sales and Trading at a BB after graduation and I'm currently a sophomore at a Top Target (think HYPS). I applied to internships this summer and although I got a few interviews, I didn't get any offers.

My question is: What can I do this summer to better position myself for Junior year recruiting (aka when it really matters)? I am trying to network and hopefully get an opportunity at a smaller prop trading shop or perhaps even a boutique ibanking experience.

I've also heard having a large brand name (ie. BB) really helps on your resume so I've tried to network my way into some sort of an informal internship in such firms. Has anyone had positive experiences with this and could share some info?

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

A bit about the position. Its a summer internship with a not-for-profit. Their investment management fund has $7B AUM, with $2B for fixed income.

Duties include:

Primary duties of the incumbent will include performing daily trading and cash flow reconciliation

Hi, I'll attend an AC (trading), there are a group exercise and an individual presentation in the process

I was told by someone that it could involve discussing some company business or presenting some decision etc..

The thing is that while I have really good understanding of options dynamics, I don't really know much about comany statements and all the valuation corporate stuff except the basics (P/E, market cap, stock/debt etc...)

Should I give it a quick look or is it useless ?

Thanks :)
