ex cfo during the dot com period late nineties...

The single most important choice you will ever have to really make is the person you marry. She can make you or break you. Don't pay attention to the pop psychology bull. No other investment can be anywhere as significant. And you don't just "get lucky"...A good choice takes hard work, patience, intelligence and serious due diligence, and it will take balls. If you're gun shy, slow, or a sheep you could lose very, very badly. There are no good girls, or bad girls. Love is the toughest market you will ever have to work in.

All the hard work you have put into your lives so far, pale in comparison to the work you have to put into the choice of your mate.

Great questions to ask on a first date...

So I was reading through this piece somewhere about how online dating is amazing and how effective its been. With it, a piece accompanied it talking about great questions to ask on a first date. And it was the biggest pile of crap I've ever read. They were as generic as they come and will no way lead to getting laid if thats the end goal.

As we're a pretty young group on here, I was wondering what questions you guys usually like to ask on a first date? Hopefully it'll make for an interesting discussion.

I usually go for three:

1 ) An embarrassing story - helps me connect with someone and if its humorous, all the better.

2) Whether she likes to read - simply for compatibility purposes. I'm a big reader so enjoy discussing it

Marrying some one with Debt.

marrying debt.jpg

Ok, I don't plan on marrying some one with debt. But, suppose acurrent GF has ~50k in loans. And one does not currently have any debt to their name, no CC, no student loans, no car payments, nothing. Which has gotten me to wonder what if one happens to end up falling in <3 with a girl who has debt would it be wrong for one not to marry them until their debt is paid off.

What is your opinions? What bracket of debt is an Auto No Thanks?.

10-20k?
21-40k?

Would their earning potential/major/school be a factor for you?

Any one ever have debt be the reason they didn't get engaged/married?

Upon looking up a Google search it seems this has been an issue for quiet a few actually, for example in this article:

I think around 20-30 guys. This accounts for high school, college (mostly freshman year), Spring break trips, summer time, etc.. Then when they turn 21, going out to the bars basically a few days a week during their Junior and senior year.

I've been getting ready for my SA role by picking up business clothes, and it is an absolute nightmare. I have a "curvy" petite frame. It is nearly impossible for me to find a full suit that works. Either the top is too small or the bottom is too big/long. I have the biggest problems in the bust area.

Is it healthy to have a friendship with a married woman, where:

1) You dated
2) She texts/calls you an awful lot

Is this dynamic normal? Have any of you monkeys experienced it? I would hate to be the cause of someone's issues.

Using online dating sites

I just moved into NYC for a new job and its been consuming so much time that I've barely been able to go out. I asked a friend to set me up with a friend of hers but that didnt go well. A few of my colleagues and the fact that my brother married his wife after meeting online has kinda prompted me to go in that direction. I'm a little apprehensive. I'm not sure what to expect. I was wondering what you guys have been doing, those with serious time issues, in relation to dating?

Has anyone ever tried it? Any level of success? Is the social stigma still attached from when I was in college?

I think the thing I'm worried about is how some of these women are immediately expecting a long-term commitment because of the 'no-fail' nature of it.

Any tips guys? Thanks!

I asked one of my friends from college to set me up with one of her friends, or not even that, when I introduce myself to this girl, whether I should say we have a mutual friend. She coldly said no.

Some friend, right? Clearly I should get rid of this 'friend' right?

Does anyone remember this? Might have been an Eddie post or response to one.

It was a hilarious analysis of why men should wait for marriage, how women start out getting as much sex as they want, and then need to tie down a man before they become unattractive. Men age like wine, etc. Had graphs

SB for first person to post it, my Google fu must be terrible. Want to re-post somewhere

Not what I usually post but bear with me. OK, my ex and I keep in touch still and we're still pretty good friends now. We had a pretty ugly break-up and have had major arguments after the fact (I mention this for context).

I met a friend of hers a while back (I doubt she remembers me), and now she's in the same city as me. She was pretty hot and still is judging from her Facebook pictures. So my question is, how can I get my ex to set me up with that friend? Couple of things to note:

1) Although, I wasnt, my ex claimed I was possessive. Utter crap because no other girl has ever said that to me. So I'm worried she might mention this and screw things up for me.

2) As mentioned, an ugly break up but friends since. We've had our ups and downs. How does that effect me do you think?

Maybe its because I'm still in my low 20s, but I dont see how money is required/considered by females.. Most guys our age meet women at a bar or a club. These are places where basically every man is on an equal playing field, where their looks is what sets them apart. And the girls you meet at these places arent the type of girls that you'd want to date or spend money on, so I dont see why so many men stress the importance of money when it comes to women.

Hey everyone,

I've been struggling with this search for a while now. I don't think my standards are too specific but was wondering if any guys here want the same qualities I do.

I think most would agree that physical appearance is the most important of such qualities because that's the 1st thing we observe in each other. Beyond that, though, I find more and more females have become too impressionable due to exposure to pop culture.

As a 21 year old, I feel that myself and others are in an increasingly losing situation. Some of the things I look for:

-No "clubbing": I think this speaks for itself.
-Lack of grandiose tattoos: It seems more and more are going this way.
-Fakeness: Plastic surgery and excessive use of warpaint (makeup) are huge turnoffs.

My ex girl (the same one) recently got back into town and is offering to set me up with her friends. I accepted because I recently broke up with another girl and could do with a fling or two.

Having seen a few different girls (she has tons of hot friends), i hooked up with two of them. Both slutty and nothing special in the sack but pretty to look at but not so good to listen to. One of her friends is great, very pretty, great personality and easy to talk to for ages. The other night we spent all night on the phone talking.

However, in discussing with my ex-girl, she says she is saving herself for marriage and will only get serious if she sees me as marriage material. I dont want to settle down yet but I really like this girl. What can I do?

THE ONES TO AVOID
The dating game is difficult to navigate. Sometimes guys end up with a woman who they later realize is nothing but poison.

Of course, it’s not fair to judge someone on a first impression, although we all tend to do that anyway. But there are hints, sometimes subtle ones, that poisonous women tend to reveal and if you can catch them, you will know which women men should avoid at all times.

Women men should avoid #10
The transformer
At first, she will do subtle things like fix your collar and shuffle your hair. But before you know it, she’ll be licking her fingers to rub something off your face and telling you that your entire being is wrong.

It's that time of the year again, summer analyst season. While some of you are fortunate enough to have your own summer analyst's at your disposal, I highly doubt any of them look like this girl.

She definitely has Street cred, too. Her previous experience includes working as a principal officer in risk management at ZAO Raiffeisenbank and she holds a degree in Applied Maths and Physics from Moscow State Industrial University, according to her LinkedIn profile.
Last summer, Wall Streeters went bonkers for Swiss model Xenia Tchoumitcheva, who was an intern in JPMorgan's London offices.

Amity Shlaes has written an interesting opinion piece of the benefits and drawbacks of litigation in business. Specifically she writes that litigation by women could be hurting other women in the long run by making companies in certain fields wary of hiring women. Litigation also hurts business, she says. She makes the point that there are "safe" companies that follow the rules and "wild" companies that don't, and in her opinion these "wild" companies are more creative. Litigation hurts these "wild" companies and reduces their creativity.

The very same countries that rank lower on the entrepreneurship charts star when it comes to gender equality. Iceland, Finland, Sweden and Ireland are top countries in the 2011 update of Unesco’s survey. Singapore, No. 1 for business opportunity, ranks 57th of 135 countries, below Jamaica, Namibia, Russia and Honduras on the gender-gap index. The U.S. ranks fourth when it comes to doing business, but only 17th when it comes to measuring the gender gap.

What are your thoughts? Does litigation by women hurt the chances of other women breaking in to certain fields?

Despite searching, I have not seen a topic regarding ethnic hair. My goal is eventually go into Investment Banking. However, I'm not trying to get laughed out of the interview for looking too different. So, I want REAL advice. Are there any women in banking on here that understand this dilemma? Have you guys seen any interns or entry level analysts with ethnic hair. I'm referring to NEAT braids, afros, or twists. This is a very serious question. I want to go natural for cultural reasons, but I have a good suspicion that bone straight hair is the norm. Should I just suck it up and get a wig or relaxer?

Look, I know there is enough machismo on this site to pump-up the whole New England Patriots locker room. But to be completely honest, I really enjoy working under women. On similar note, I also enjoy working in offices that have a higher female to male ratio. For whatever reason, when there are more women around, I tend to stay away from the usual office clicks and messy politics.

More importantly, all my female bosses have always been empathetic my all-nighters and even more motivating during those late-night, shiny-eyed hours. More than their male counter parts, I always thought that these women were able to demand high quality work without being complete dicks about it. Does anyone else feel this way?

Have you ever wondered if your teacher simply didn’t think you were competent enough for a subject, even though your scores were decent? Well apparently if you are a white female this may be true.

"A 'subtle' but 'definitely present' tendency among high school teachers to deem their white female students less competent than white male students with similar grades and scores, and to consider them less comfortable in a particular math class, or to be less capable of advancing."

This is an extremely well-written piece on Cracked - authored by a man - about some of the ridiculous ways modern men treat and perceive women. While I think using "Hate" in the title is too strong ("resent" is probably a little more appropriate), some of these topics really struck a chord. "We are Trained from Birth to See You As a Decoration" and "Feeling that our Manhood was Stolen From Us", were my favorites. "Feeling Powerless" was pretty disturbing because of its dead-on accuracy.

Anyhow, most dudes on WSO have probably been guilty of being chauvinist dicks on the forums at one point or another (myself included). Wondering what you Monkeys think....
