If I have a cell "ABC-123"

and I want to create a formula to only return me the first 3 char i.e. "ABC" - how do I do that..

Does anyone here use Macs? I’ve been using a Mac for B-school but the 2008 Office is really bad for Excel. For example: no VBA, no solver, and pivot table functions are weak. I suppose using Bootcamp possible, but understand it uses a lot of memory. Wanted to see if there are any options besides switching to PC.

How does one change the color of the font and background for a 'tab' sheet in xls.

Lets say I have a table with data. I want to create a sub table that picks rows from the source table depending upon criteria.

What is the best way to create the sub table (so that it does not have empty lines in between, if we were to follow a brute force method of creating)
