small fund vs big fund to start career in pe

Hi,

I want to start a career in real estate private equity and am considering various paths to achieve that apart from the "traditional" banking to pe route. In particular I'm thinking about joining a smaller pe firm, which I think would be a great opportunity, but obviously it has some disadvantages and I would like to get some oppinions on how much weight those bear.

Let's assume a pe firm with total equity amounting to around EUR 600 Mio., of which 400 Mio is corporate pe and 200 Mio is repe. The repe fund is pretty new (2005) and was significantly oversubscribed.

Possible disadvantages I can think of:

1) No brand for CV
2) Lower deal flow and transaction volumes to be involved with
3) Lower salary

Possible advantages:

1) More entrepreneurial environment

From Real Estate into Infrastructure

Hi,

I guess these two asset classes exhibit many similarities and it seems like sometimes they are even integrated in one division. Is there maybe somebody who could tell if starting in real estate within private equity, it would be easy/possible/consequential to move into infrastructure?

I ask because I am very much interested in both and am going to do a Master in Real Estate, though I think there might be more opportunities in Infrastructure than Real Estate in the future. Would it be still a suited degree?

I would appreciate any oppinions!

REPE: asset management vs acquisition

Hi folks!

I'm very interested in REPE and would like to find out about the perspectives one has within a REPE firm's asset management and acquisition division respectively in terms of duties, pay, responsibility and the possibility of becoming a partner. Moreover what are the possibilities of switching within both areas?

I'd really appreciate any insights!

Blackstone Real Estate London and Starwood Capital

Anyone know anything in specific about these two Real Estate groups? I'm trying to figure out where to look up prior deals and to know if there's any relevant news for them. Search is turning up nothing useful. Thanks.

Yield compression

What are peoples thoughts on yield compression as a driver of higher IRR's. Would 50bps be a stretch over a 5 year period.
