Future Outlook: Advice for a Junior Weighing Entrepreneurship
I'm currently a first semester Junior, getting ready for the recruiting process for summer internships. I'd been following WSO and WSJ for well over a year to prepare for the investment banks and other related jobs, but the recent meltdown has me reconsidering that path.
I've been toying with a start-up idea for a while now. If I choose to give up the traditional path of Banking/F500 CorpFin/Consulting, there are obviously many risks that it entails, not the least of which includes striking out on an unknown, probably unprofitable enterprise (for the first few years) that requires all the sweat and blood poured into banking, and then some.
Vegas for the college student
I'm going to be starting in IBD next year, but am planning a trip early next year with a bunch of buddies to Vegas.
None of us have ever been, but we're obviously trying to have a good time without going crazy money-wise. Interested in gambling and partying - but I assume there are some other highlights as well.
Can anyone give any recommendations on the best place to stay, where to go for shows, etc. I know Vegas and cheap don't necessarily go together, though keep in mind we are on a college student's budget.
Thanks in advance...
Accounting or PWM Internship?
Hey,
I'm a freshman at a target university in Canada and through family connections, I think it's feasible for me to get a summer position at either Deloitte and Touche accounting firm or at Cumberland Asset Management. These are my 2 secondary options in case my contacts at RBC Capital Markets do not pull through. Which one do you think is more favourable to American investment banks when reviewing a resume/relevant experience?
Thanks in advance.
Reconsidering Wall Street?
This is primarily for the college kids:
Has the recent financial crisis caused you to reconsider a career on Wall Street at all? What are you most worried about going forward: job-security, pay, or something else? Are you optimistic about the future state of the industry?
If you have reconsidered finance, are you considering moving away from business alltogether or just going the consulting route?
CMU, Emory, IU-Kelly, or USC
Which of these four schools tend to have the largest presence in IB, MC, and S&T?
Most likely I will do the BBA program at the schools with a 2nd major in either Comp Sci or Info Systems.
