Anyone apply to the GS event on 12/1 "Banking on your Future" in NYC? It's an all day Diversity event for non-targets.

Does anyone know if this 10% cut is being made out to be something it really is not? GS cuts the bottom 10% every year. I assume this is the cut but second guessed myself when I saw no stories of Goldman asserting that it was in fact the cut.

I hate to admit it... really hate to admit it, but I believe that it's true - and will be more true going forward. This is awful news for me, as JPMorgan is one of the worst places in the world to work, so one would have to sacrafice job satisfaction for prestige.

I was wondering if an unpaid analyst position (intern) at a decent Middle Market PE shop where you get to work closely with the firm's founders is worth it. The firm specializes in real estate and hospitality acquisitions and is rather small. The founders have extremely impressive backgrounds (H/W/S undergrad and MBA) plus top BB IBD experience (GS TMT/MS M&A) and top private equity experience at Blackstone/Carlyle/KKR. I was thinking if nothing than for the connections and contacts you could build, it might be worth it.

Any thoughts?

Are IBD signing bonuses generally structured as "advances" on the first stub bonus? Or are they simply no-strings-attached compensation for signing the employment agreement?

I think GS uses the "advance" structure. Would be interested in learning how different banks approach this.

I don't care what anyone says, GS is the King! Raised 5 billion from buffet, and another 5 in public offering. GS now have Loads of cash now and lack competition! if you think GS is big now, wait till you see the market picks up! they are going to make a killing!
