IBD

Curious to know if anyone has heard of offers being rescinded for Citi's IBD. I've got a buddy who has an offer to start in June/July; he hasn't received any bad news yet. What have you guys heard?

How does energy groups compare to other groups in an IBD in terms of exit opportunities and the skill sets earned? I would appreciate useful perspectives.

I have had several super-days, and am not getting traction. Sure, the market is tough, sure there is less demand for bankers, sure there are more bankers applying, but honestly: What does it take? I'm a nice and friendly person, with past IBD M&A experience, demonstrated initiative, clear understanding of financial and accounting concepts, an eagerness to help with whatever is needed, willingness to have a positive attitude. But what's the hook? Everyone else has that as well, minus the odd-ball candidates who are just total jack-asses, how the heck do we differentiate ourselves?

Does anyone know anything about SocGen's corporate and investment banking division in the US, specifically their NY office?

It seems to be mainly Euro equity capital markets and debt capital markets, although they claim to do some M&A and restructuring (I think mainly for French companies in the US?).

Their website sucks hard and the job posting is really vague about the actual position (they make it sound like its a flat structure, so analysts get exposure to everything they do), so any input would be greatly appreciated. Also, any thoughts on how SocGen IBD would compare with IBD at a strong MM industry group?
