Alright, I have two questions, well one is more so a story, but I would like advice on both.

So I reached out to a VP today at a BB, we had an informational interview, and she was refusing to answer my questions. She thought I was conducting an interview, umm, it's called an INFORMATIONAL INTERVIEW, hello? She is from another country, so she may not be aware of the whole networking thing. Anyway, conversation lasted for about 25 minutes, but is there anything I can do here to salvage the connection or should I fuck it and move on? Honestly, she seemed like complete snobby bitch, because she thought she was so damn special. She literally spent 8 minutes telling me the shit she owned, like WTF? I don't give a fuck.

I just finished my freshman year at U of M in LSA. I applied to the business school and will hear whether or not I get in in around a month. I had a 4.0, but my extracurriculars and essays might be a little weak. It seems as though the last few years Ross admissions has been very essay/EC weighted. Anyways, if I were to get rejected from Ross and major in Econ, do you think that I could still land a job in IBD? I hope to be able to keep my grades up and graduate with a 3.85 or higher.

I have seen discussions relating to this topic before, and I have read through them, but I am going to get a little more specific with my questions. I am about to embark on a RE IBD Summer Analyst role at a BB and was wondering if what I read on this forum is correct - mainly that the only exit opps from this field of work are REPE, RE concentrated HF, REITs, and the like.

Rising jr @ target, trying to squeeze in one last experience before recruiting (so this would be a fall internship) and lets say I had to choose between GS PWM and a no name IB. What should I choose? My prev. internship experiences would include startup, F500 Business Analyst and PE by this Fall. All of my prior experiences, with the exception of F500 gig, lack a strong brand name so should I go ahead and try to get GS on my resume or would doing something in PWM instead of IB fuck me over?

Why is only interest bearing debt included in EV? I understand that sometimes you include pension liabilities, capital leases, etc., but why aren't all liabilities included? Wouldn't these need to be paid off by an acquirer?

If you work in banking - even as an intern - you obviously have access to everything in the IB share drive including the WGLs for all deals going on. Esp. for capital raising deals where there will be many banks working together. Less so or N.A. for M&A deals.

Networking is how you lateral over if you want to switch banks after 1 year or 2 years.

Is it wrong or illegal to use the contact information from the WGL to reach out to people at other banks to grow your network? Could you get fired? Or is this a good/smart idea?

I need some advice, I just graduated and I just got an offer from BB ops (MS/GS) however I also have an offer to intern at a elite boutique (LAZ, HL, Moelis) in an advisory group. I really liked the people and the work at the boutique...however it's not full time and I already graduated.

Any thoughts?

Hey guys,

I'm currently interning at a BB in Amsterdam (regional coverage) and I'm aiming for a FT offer in London.

However, I've always had an interest in Asia and Japan in particular. Therefore, I was wondering how hard it is for a non-Japanese person to land a FT offer at a BB in Tokyo? As I understood, they strictly hire locals. I do speak some Japanese, but only very limited. Would be highly appreciated if some of you who actually work in Tokyo could give me some tips on how to break in.

Hi Chaps,

I'm looking at a distressed sit. (unfortunately not my usual space, would enjoy my job a lot more if it were...) and trying to weigh up the probability of the sponsor curing what seems like a pretty sure fire breach. Or debt buy-backs for that matter, but I deem this less likely.

Are there any tell-tell signs that the sponsor will step in? How would you asses to what level the sponsor will stand behind the company? Just because its done it before, will it do it again?

For background, the sponsor has owned the company before, sold to a different sponsor, went through a RXing, lenders took the keys and finally sold it back to the original sponsor. In addition, the sponsor has already injected a significant amount of equity since the initial acquisition.

Cheers,

Refinancing debt in the debt schedule

KJB12345's picture

 on 5/23/13 at 6:44am

Assume the model in question is a basic 3 statement operating model.

In the debt schedule you've already taken

Opening cash balance + net cash flows for repaying debt (from the CFS ~ CFO+CFI+CFF excl. change to debt)

Once that flows through your RCF and other debt obligations, let's say you want to build a facility for a complete re-fi of ALL existing Long term debt - what's the best way to go about it so that you can simply build a "yes" / "no" switch to either re-fi all the debt or not

I was toying with the idea and tried building it out but faced a couple of issues or quandries the only way I could think of doing it was to have a separate BASE analysis (like a waterfall) for each of the projection years....

If someone has a better example / idea please let me know

I have been networking with a few banks/boutiques and looking at analyst profiles on linkedin and it seems like some only hire within top 10 business schools and Ivy's. Are there some that are very elitist and not worth trying to network into? My school has no alumni, so getting someone to pull some strings will not happen at these top schools.

On the other hand, I have had some good success with some of the lower BBs and MM boutiques.

I'm ultimately trying to receive a finance/banking related internship for the fall.

I'm finished with my freshman year, and am back working in finance department of country club in hometown (don't laugh). My high school years were consumed by playing a sport and being recruited to play D1...although I wouldn't change the experience(s) I've had, it's definitely not worth the feeling of hopelessness I have towards an IB career.

My school is in Orlando, and my search for boutiques or anything (even accounting) has begun

here: http://bit.ly/18jpRGd

and here: http://tinyurl.com/ome4hye

After searching on WSO, I was hoping to find a CapIQ search for the Greater Orlando area...but to no avail.

Hello Friends,

I am a current second year analyst at a regional and well-known boutique. I am happy to answer any questions for any of you fellow monkeys that may be going into the slaughterhouse this summer. I have BB internship experience, so I can compare and contrast nicely.

As most of us here probably are regional boutique players, and not GS analysts (our pitchbooks are way better, anyway), I am happy to answer any questions about working at a smaller and regional bank. Please ask here or PM me if you are interested in chatting.

In addition, I'm interested in hearing about positive or negative experiences working with firms in the lower middle/middle market.

Regards,

Hey guys, where I can find all the M&A deals a specific BB was the banker for? For example, if I'm looking for all the deals JPM lead in HCIT M&A is there an easy way to find this list online?

My group has all the banker books at our offices but I'm one the road for the next few days without access to the hard copies. I have access to CapIQ, ect, but I'm not sure how to screen by retained banker either.

Really appreciate any help I can get.

Advice for a Rising Freshman

Hello WallStreetOasis,

I'm a rising freshman that is going to a target school next year on the West coast. I'm trying to plan my future, hopefully one in IB. I was hoping to get some advice from WSO.

My goal is to have an internship at a larger boutique or a BB in the summer between my sophomore and junior year.

Right now, I have an internship set for me during the summer between my freshman and sophomore year. It's not IB, but I will very likely be doing work that's similar to IB.

To get the goal I have for my the summer between sophomore and junior year would it be useful to do these things:

Receive Wall Street Prep's Certification in Financial and Valuation Modeling
Certificate from the new Claritas thing by CFA (I know this gets a lot of hate)
