Hi guys, I've been accepted to the schools listed above as a sophomore transfer student. I currently attend a semi-target public school and am looking to break into BB IB and eventually PE in east asia.
I will be interning at a boutique ibank this summer and has done BB PWM during the school year.

Which of these schools will be best for BB IB placement as well as B-school? I would appreciate all your comments & suggestions. Thanks!

What do you think would be the range of reasonable success fees in the following cases of a sale of a company (which transaction would be very very straightforward and not involve much due diligence at all)?
-acquisition price of $20 mil?
-acquisition price of $40 mil?
-acquisition price of $60 mil?
-acquisition price of $80 mil?

Inspired by comments from this: http://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/basic-guide-...

Lets just jump in.

Technology: In this space there are really two metrics that matter the most, sales growth and EPS growth. EV/Sales will be used if you are thinking about investing in growth companies (IPO valuations). To keep the post short if you’re investing in large tech it is more about EV/EBITDA (cash flow) and P/E’s, if you’re investing in growth stocks it is more about year over year sales growth and EPS growth since many do not have positive earnings.

Best Post-IB Corp. Dev Opportunities

Currently in the middle of an analyst stint at a top boutique. Currently leaning more toward the Corp. Dev side as opposed to PE in terms of what I'd like to do next. Not too many of my peers have chosen this route, so I'm less informed. I'm aware of Disney and maybe one or two others, but that's mostly it.

What are 10 or so of the best corp. development opportunities that are both:

1) Receptive towards those coming off of IB analyst stints.
2) Looked upon favorable by MBA admissions committees.

If you have had interns, what qualities made them the best intern? What qualities did you see in them that made you give them more work? What experiences did they have that allowed you to give them more advanced tasks?

Currently at a non target state school, rising junior and stupidly applied to transfer into only the very top schools like the ivies, Michigan, Berkeley, etc and got rejected/waitlisted everywhere. I'm in shock because I had excellent grades, test scores and ecs, but bad, rushed essays and very impersonal recommendations. I'm currently contemplating whether it's worth it transferring anymore, and whether any of my options are even "semi targets." Through linkeidn, i've seen people from the lousiest, most disregarded undergrads break into BBs/Elite Boutiques via networking, but it's such a shot in the dark that I want something better, because I have studied and practiced many interviews and know that I can kill them if I can manage to get them.

I am interning full-time at an real estate private equity firm this summer and also doing part time work with a boutique investment bank. My ultimate goal come full time recruiting season is to move into MM/BB investment banking. As far as the private equity work goes, does anyone have any insights or prior experience as to if any work in REPE spins pretty well into IBD? Would focusing on breaking into a real estate investment banking group give me so much more of an advantage as opposed to applying for another industry (industrials, tech, etc)?

Business School after 3 year IBD analyst stint?

Has anyone done this? I'm aware that most MBA applicants have an average of 5 years work experience - how would a candidate with 3 years of IBD experience be view upon?

Some key facts for this situation:

1. Reason for aiming an MBA as fast as possible is due to a possible change in interests. (Suppose you wanted to quit banking and enter consulting).

2. Reason for doing a 3rd year analyst stint is
a. 2 years work exp. seems WAY too low for possible MBA admission. At least after 3 years you could discuss on managing analysts below (basically like an associate role).

I've been reading the corporate profiles/bios of tops PMs/principals/founders at HFs/asset managers/even a lot of PE shops and it seems like few of them got their starts in investment banking. I feel like WSO creates this impression that IBD is the ultimate way to start your career, especially if you want to move to PE/HF. If that's the case, who has found great success in the financial industry after starting in IBD?

Alright so I had an interview at a boutique bank (phone call, but it was an informal interview) about 3 weeks ago. It went well, and I followed up around a week later and was told there was no decision on my status yet, and to reach out next week to remind them. I did that, which required no response, but then a few days later I sent a follow up email asking if there was any update. This was 2 days ago at this point, and I've not received any word from them yet. I have pending offers, which are, to be honest, slightly less attractive to me at this time than this firm would be if I get an offer. I don't want to make the other firms wait any longer, as they are emailing me asking if I'm still available this summer and I don't really have anything to tell them.

Tips to lateral to a better bank? Networking

If you work at a lower MM bank but not a boutique (Think Maxim, Piper, Needham, National) in New York City is it possible to get to larger prestigious bank like Oppenheimer, Cowen, or Stifel Nicolaus after a year as an generalist analyst?

I heard that the lateral hires usually happen in Feb./March after bonuses when people leave. Is that true?

How do I best position myself to be considered for a 2nd year analyst role at a prestigious bank like Stifel or Leerink Swan? Should I try to reach out to bankers there starting now?

I know the elite boutiques and the BBs are out of my reach but I would really appreciate the advice.

How do students usually find COOP internships through networking? Some posts in the past, indicate that it is possible to get full time internships in the fall at even BBs with much less competition, but they're all old and firms might not do this anymore. Also do students have to pay their school tuition for course credit or could you just do the internship and not be enrolled for the semester (and the firm would be okay with this)?

intern bitch work.jpg

So far this summer I have been a SA for a boutique investment bank here in NYC - midtown. Its not too small, and isn't regional. Has international exposure, deal size I would say is not too small, but not too big. I am a Sophomore in undergrad by the way. So in that aspect, I did not expect to do anything too technical/crazy. Although I would like for them to give me tasks that require more responsibility, and brain power after all.

The problem here is that for the week and a half I have been here, I have literally only been doing bitch work. And it seems like in my future days/weeks... Bitch work. Tomorrow?.. Bitch work. Next month? More bitch work. This is how it seems as of right now, and I have been doing the same stupid crap this whole time and it seems that it will be doing only this for the rest of summer.

Hey everyone I'm looking for some help regarding choosing a second concentration or minor. I want to do some kind of IB, preferably M&A. I am also considering consulting. I just finished up my sophomore year at Boston College, I'm in the school of management there. I've got a 3.5 (huge upwards trend) and I've taken over half my business core, all my regular core, and knocked out the accounting and econ classes. So from here until graduation can focus on my finance concentration classes and a second concentration or minor.

If you have solid ideas about how a given company (corp. finance) could improve its position (kind of a consulting brief so to say), is it worthwhile to send them cold to F500 CFOs / VPs / Fin directors? Let's assume they open the email and bother to read it :P Say your purpose is to land a gig at the company of interest.
