Restructuring: Accountants vs. Lawyers
I posted this on the restructuring group forum but I might as well get everyone's opinion:
I noticed that most of the MDs at places like HLHZ and Close Brothers had backgrounds in law or accounting. Seeing as I graduated last Spring, an analyst stint at a restructuring shop is not a possibility but I would like to position myself for an associate position a few years down the line.
I went to college in the U.S. but I grew up in France so I would definitely like to shoot for firms in Europe (London). What do you think is the best background for someone trying to get in to a place like HLHZ? I'm planning on taking the LSATs in June but I'm also thinking of applying to Big 4 restructuring practices in London for the fall. Any suggestions?
Career in Reorganization / Liquidation
I just received an offer for big4 Reorganization team. I suppose this is a very specialized job and is a lot harder to get into commercials than audit folks. But I am wondering if this experience in liquidation is a good leverage to banks or PE shops when the market goes back up.
Any advice? Thanks!
Blackstone, HLHZ, Lazard Restructuring Interview
Hey Guys,
Happy Holiday!
I have an interview coming up with the top restructuring firms on the street. Given the current condition of the economy, I see a bright near future in restructuring. I just wanted some insight from you seasoned wall street oasers on how to prepare for restructuring interviews. How different are they from typical i-banking interviews? Resources I could look at? Things I should absolutely know etc.
Thanks,
SII
Silver Point Finance
I'd like to learn anything I can about this fund. Can anyone point me to a good article or profile on them?
CPA vs CFA
I will be joining the restructuring group of a well regarded boutique in the summer. However, I just finished school and have nothing all that important to do with my time until then. I was thinking of getting either CPA or CFA certified (I am eligible for both).
I was wondering which one might be more relevant to my line of work and which one is better regarded by Bschools and employers later on, given the fact that I don't want to go into investment management or S&T.
Any input is welcome. Thanks.
