Application of Interest Rates in Algo Trading

Hi,

I'd like to know how interest or interest rates are used (if they are used at all) in trading, specifically algorithmic trading.

I was under the impression that for HFT a trading firm creates algorithms to trade at high volumes, does the firm use their own money or a pool of peoples money like a hedge fund?

Also, someone else told me that they leverage money by borrowing and pay interest on that borrowed money to leverage, is that also true?

Does anybody working in the firm, either an algo developer or trader/analyst deal with interest directly?

Thanks.

Hi guys,

I have got 2 offers from the same bank (top 3 american) for summer analyst 2014.
One is on the cross asset structuring desk and the other for credit hybrids trading.
I liked them both very much in interviews, in the next few days someone from each desk is going to call me, what kind of things would you ask?
Also, what would you choose?

Thank you very much.

This has been brought up countless times, however I'm not sure there's good evidence/discussions. The equities business is clearly changing; I know two directors from sales at BB's that suddenly found themselves without jobs.

Would you recommend that someone with a specialized equity skill-set learn debt before it's too late in their career. Talking sell-side ER/S&T etc. but-side is obviously always trying to generate alpha.

Interested to hear your thoughts. Thx

Hello everyone,

I have a second phone interview and a on-site interview for a real-time power trading position. This is a entry-level position with about a year or less of experience required.

I was wondering if any of you guys can give any insight on what questions to expect, what they will be looking for in a candidate, etc. I imagine it will be mostly behavioral questions, since I do not have much experience in energy trading. I just finished an internship at a energy trading prop shop.

Better late than never if you are the Japanese I suppose.

"Japan's economy grew faster than expected in January-March, expanding at its quickest pace in a year on the back of solid private consumption and a rise in exports spurred by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's aggressive monetary and fiscal stimulus."

You can now send money as an attachment. The whole Google I/O event wrapped up today and left us some nifty little tidbits.

In the coming weeks and months, a dollar sign will start popping in Gmail accounts of people who already use Google Wallet, and a quick click lets users define the recipient and the amount they’d like to send along as an attachment. Since all of these transactions run through Google Wallet, the usual caveats are in place.

You can still send over funds from a connected bank account, but those who prefer to pay with credit or debit cards are subject to an additional 2.9 percent fee tacked on.

You also need to be over 18 to take part in the funding fun, though.

What would people choose if they had a front office markets position with DB but also had a private wealth management offer for a BB in more typical financial hub. What do people think of the two, what would my exit opportunities out of a regional office be like if I wanted to move to NYC after several years?

Hi everyone,

It has truly been enriching reading through the discussions on this forum. This is my first post, and I would like to seek your advice on the progression into physical energy trading (for an Asian context).

I have just completed my sophomore year, double degree in Economics and BBM (Int Trading), GPA ~3.9+

I have done a physical agri trading during the summer of my freshman year, and I am now interning as an Energy Upstream Analyst.

I would like to know what is the recommended "next course of action" for me, as I understand that I need to gain experience doing scheduling/operator work before I can progress to any trading role. Also, do you see any difference in physical trading position between the majors and commod houses (Mercuria, Vitol and such)?

Sup Monkeys

Im currently a student in the UK looking to open my first real trading account. Ive been paper trading for a few years on a website that offers straight equities, cfds and forex on the FTSE 100. Ive noticed Ive developed a preference towards CFDs, (i know the classic assumption would be that like every rookie I like the apparent 'ease' of returns that leverage provides, which I am trying to be wary of with very tight risk limits) but I think I also find it easier to trade within the time scale and risk profile offered by CFDs as my trading ideas tend to be small 'sure' price moves that if they dont materialise I close out the position and CFDs allow me to better capitalise on them.

Ready to Start Trading: Which Broker?

larry-kudlow.jpg

I've been paper trading for 2.5 years now and have made consistent returns. I can't stand seeing my fake money appreciate any longer while my real money sits in a checking account.

I use a basic swing trading strategy. I only have $20k now, but I'll have another $5k after I liquidate some sunglasses that I bought at my old job for cheap. I don't see why the strategy that I've been using on the $100k paper account wouldn't scale down.

Is there a consensus on which brokerage is best for a low-equity swing trader? Is there a reliable place to compare pros and cons of various brokerages?

Thanks a lot,

Ultimately I want to do trading. Is PWM any good as a summer internship for a freshman or is just a waste as you're earning no money and it seems like it doesn't really add that much to a resume? It is finance experience, but would working a full time summer job and trading on the side look better, or is PWM the way to go?

So I have a background in programming and have done a lot of studying about technical analysis. I have started to put these parts together to build a basic automated trading system. My system so far catches most major trends and rides them out well, but is very vulnerable to false breakouts. The positions created from false breakouts are closed quickly, but the accumulation of many of these positions has a large effect on my profit.

Hi New Poster here dealing with a life crisis, hope someone can help.
A little background about me-

I'm turning 25 this year, spent some time in the Marines and now am about to graduate with a Finance Degree. I've wanted to be a trader/investor since Sophomore year of High school, this was 2004. I bought stocks with my money as a teen, some good calls some bad, about broke even. Joined the Military and put everything about investing out of my mind for a while. Fast forward to now, as I'm finishing my degree and looking for a job, everything has seemed to change since High School.

Hello,

I'm from a non-target and had to do a lot of networking to get the BB S&T internship that I was lucky enough to get. Obviously, I didn't get that many interviews and no interviews that weren't through networking. This being said, I was curious if I should expect more interviews (without networking) when it comes to FT recruiting or will I still have to do a lot of networking to get my foot in the door?

Thank You
