Ok, the next iteration in our attempt to improve the WSO UI is here.

We have now made it so when you are replying to a comment, the comment box appear immediately below the comment you are replying to. Additionally, after you post a reply to a comment, your comment will have a small tab in the upper left corner that says "In reply to [username]" so that people know what comment you are replying to.

Based on user feedback, we kept the chronological order of the comments and did not use any indentation. Another cool feature we will bring live soon is making that small reply tab actually slides up to reveal what you are replying to, instead of linking / jumping you back up the page.

In other words,

1. No new page when you are reply

Hey, most other forums I seen have a "Start discussion" or "post topic" that you can click on. Then on the next page it autopopulates the subforum that you were on previously so you don't have to click it again.

Not a huge deal but an easy fix I would imagine.

New WSO Header Design? Comments Welcome....

So I've been brainstroming on how to make the WSO header cleaner and more web 3.0 since that was one of the suggested improvements to WSO that was put forward from several users.

So I was thinking something like the image attached here (ignore messed up color and red). Basically, if would remove the social icons and search bar, use jquery to bring those up to upper right corner, logo woudl drop down and tile icons would be shorter. The main nav bar would be in the Oasis blue and the search, social share, about, etc woudl be in upper right corner, just like thenextweb.com design.

Small tear came to my eye this morning when I didnt see anyone raving about our new quote feature (probably because it took us ~3-4 days to get it functional).

Instead of the quote icon now taking you to a new page to type your reply, the quoted content hovers and slides down to the content box with some animation...all on the same page.

This may seem stupid, but just another small change to improve the usability of the forums...we'll keep going and keep making improvements :-)

I am also battling with some new design ideas in my brain for the header....

Career choice

I'm going to be graduating at the end of summer from an non target school. I don't care about the fact that the school I went to more or less sucks, because I realize that ambition far outweighs skill.
What I am struggling with however, is the sector that I want to choose as my career path. I don't have much experience aside from an internship at a wealth management branch. I don't want to pursue wealth management until I am ready to retire. So, in hopes that somebody on here can give some insight here is a simple list of the things that I want/like:
- Ultimately I want to bring deals to the table. I want to do research, negotiate, work hard and be rewarded for it.
- My father was an entrepreneur, I enjoy entrepreneurship and thinking outside the box.

I feel this could be useful, and put a little power back in our hands, if we were able to review head hunters. Not too sure how personal we could get (e.g. names or just companies), but since the same sort of review is available for workmen, plumbers etc.. i don't see an issue.

Of course this would have to be wholly anonymous, so run like the company reviews / interviews section.

Can the Interviews, Reviews, and Salary listings be organized or filtered by title/position and department/group?

For example, if I want to find an IB SA interview at Goldman I either have to be lucky enough for someone to title their entry as "IB Summer Analyst" or something along the likes, or I have to spend time searching one by one through entries labeled as "Intern", "Summer Intern", "Summer Analyst" without knowing if the position is for IB, ER, AM, etc until already viewing it.

Being able to filter these results by position (SA, 1Y Analyst, 2Y Analyst, etc) as well as department (IB, ER, S&T, etc) would be extremely helpful and save a lot of headache.

I'm proposing the chat is changed from CU's to Invite only. There are some people on here that would like to take advantage of the chat function but can't because of some idiots a year ago.

One way to do this: create a special class similar to the Cert User class. A person who would like to be invited has to not only receive an invitation, but prove their identity (student email which should include their name, maybe driver's license, something).

Gives those of us that aren't complete morons the opportunity to shoot the shit with the certs in real time.

I'm not sure why, but sometimes the posts extend beyond the content area and parts of them will end under the sidebar (end up missing anywhere from 10-75% of the post). Have had the issue on and off for a while.

I use Chrome, so that may be why if you all focus on IE/FF...

Also, just tried to post this a couple of times in Site Suggestions and it wouldn't go through

EDIT: Figured out the second problem, put commas between the tags and for some reason it wouldn't post... or maybe it's just coincidence that it posted after I took the commas out. Meh

EDIT2: Changed title to Post Layout Issue since dude below me has a similar issue with FF (though his is because of tracking posts and mine happens randomly)

Just got 9 monkey shits thrown at a me in a week old thread by a single individual that went to each of my posts and threw a monkey shit. There should be some accountability for that--if you throw multiple MS at someone in a single thread, you should either have to defend it with a follow up post or have your screen name publicized to at least the author you've thrown MS at, like the accused having a right to face the accuser.

Kind of ridiculous to have someone just throw everything they've got at an individual without defending their position, especially in a thread where the "accused" is inarguably correct.

Just a thought, but I think our banana score (that we largely earn by commenting and posting), should be convertible to silver bananas, and instead we pay for monkey shit. That way we can start awarding thorough posts more heavily.

Ex. I have 200 bananas, I see PosterX wrote a long witty discussion, thus I am able to select throwing him 1 - 10 bananas as an award bringing me down to 199 - 190 bananas.

Ex. I have 100 bananas, I see PosterX wrote a shitty discussion with typos, I buy monkey shit and able to select to throw 1 - 10 pieces of shit to pelt his banana score down.

Is there any way you can make it so the birthdate on our profile is private? I'm cool with giving y'all my birthday if y'all want it for demographic purposes, but I'd rather not have it be public because then it's easier to ID people behind their name.

I have question on regards with the financial statements. If a company uses a $3 billion dollar loan to repurchase shares how would that affect all three portions of the financial statement? I am studying a company that has Total Assets of $1.765 billion, Total Liabilities of $0.489 billion and Owners Equity of $1.276 billion. I am more focused on how the balance sheet changes. Thanks.

Flaws in the U.S. Education System- What separates a target from a non-target?

Hello WSO Community,

This an off topic post from what should be a finance blog. However, since there are a lot of discussions concerning target and non-target schools, I thought it would be interesting to discuss what really separates these two groups. Obviously grades and standardized test scores help determine whether a high school student gets into Princeton or a simple college/ state university. However, these metrics seem remarkably flawed in my opinion.
