What are some of the reasons people would want to work in this F500 function? From my reading on here, some people claim its a good alternative to IB given the fewer amount of hours worked..

Is Corp. Strategy something consultants would prefer and ex-bankers would opt for Corp. Dev? Can someone give me some insight on the Corporate Strategy group

Hi everyone,

I just have a quick question for anyone who is familiar with GE CAS and the path to that program. I was wondering if FMP is the only way to potentially get selected into into CAS later on or if other groups within GE also have a shot at getting in.

Right now, based on the degree I'm pursuing, I might not be able to apply to FMP, but I'm wondering if the risk management or controllership groups can also be selected into CAS if they do well during their 1st two years at the company.

Thanks!

Due to extenuating circumstances I left a role in IB and am currently working for a multinational conglomerate in their corporate strategy / business development team projects are extremely varied from valuation / financial modeling to preparing presentation materials on emerging trends in industries within which group companies operate. My focus has however been steady on the M&A side and not so much on the consulting type work.

Is it possible to break back into IB after a 2 to 3 year stint in corporate development - mid market / boutique not bulge bracket

Hey Everyone,

I have the opportunity to switch into a business development Finance role at a large tech company and was wondering what is the difference between corporate development and business development finance? I have seen threads that look at corp dev vs bus dev...but what is bus dev finance?

Thanks

Wondering if FLDP's provide the same "perks" as banking and other high finance careers. Also which ones tend to be the best (comp, prestige, exit opps, internal exit opps, b school)

I know this is late but i am wondering what monkeys think of the executive pay rules that were enacted in Switzerland. In particular the ban on golden hellos and goodbyes. Without the flexibility to negotiate buyouts of deffered compensation they are going to have a hell of time recruitting outside talent.

Help! Unprepared for a Corp Finance Interview with LBG

I have an upcoming interview for an internship with LBG in North America, but I feel inadequately prepared.

I'll need to work on quantitative/financial analysis for clients, including capital structure advisory and corporate finance advisory, and one of the qualifications was: analytical ability and experience with company and financial analysis.

But as a rising junior who recently declared in Economics, I haven't taken any coursework in Corp Finance and have not conducted financial analysis before. But they liked my resume enough to invite me in and so I'm thinking to myself that I should at least go to the interview and gain interview experience if nothing else.

Hi monkeys,

First post, so I apologize in advance for any mistakes in this thread. I currently work at a top tech company (Fortune 20ish) in corporate finance. This isn't a FLDP or anything remotely prestigious. I have been working here for almost 2 years mainly in FP&A.

My question is, can you lateral from a corporate finance role into some sort of FLDP (maybe like a 2 year rotational program)? The company I'm at is one of the top companies (not as prestigious as a Google, Amazon, etc., think more HP or Intel) but the job frankly sucks. The pay is way under the average and the location is horrible also. Should I not waste my time looking for FLDPs and just try to network into a senior financial analyst position? Thanks for all the replies.

Taking my first crack at doing a model from the inside, and I've already been tasked with coming up with the best practices for my finance department.

Any general rec's from someone who has been doing this for a while (especially compared to a buy/sell-side background)? Specifically, how would you set up a model to incorporate the whole company's finances? Relatively small company, but the spreadsheet they have is already unwieldy. One person wants lots of linked spreadsheets (for each operating unit), the other wants everything in one.

Any thoughts on how these positions are viewed internally? For anyone in the know, are banking CSBD positions good professional experiences?

I am starting an internship this summer with one of the big Banks. I am going to be in operations. Im not really sure what I will be doing. If anyone can give me some advice that would be great. Maybe some readings or some topics that I should know and prepare myself for prior to the start date that would be great. I think im unprepared for what I am going to be doing.

When I accepted my F500 corp fin SA, I was offered two start dates to choose from: 5/27 and 6/3. I went with the later date, 6/3, because I had been registered for a May term at my school at the time. Just today, however, I cancelled my enrollment in the May class.

Do you think the company will let me change my start date to 5/27 since I was offered a choice when I was given the offer? Can anyone speak from experience?

Thanks.

Because as a freshman you really don't get into your core finance classes. I would like the forums advice if should I look at investing (learning to look company's 10k and comparing company's) or should I study finance? Any other ideas are greatly appreciated.

Something that I haven't actually been able to find an answer for. I've accepted I'm just not the IB type, nor do I want to work the hours, but I'm a good enough student with a 3.7 GPA going to a semi-target, so I've been looking to FLDPs.

Are rotations in FLDPs normally all in different locations, or the same location? Does it vary depending on the firm? If there are these rotational location changes, are they normally required or optional?

For a corp dev case study, how does one calculate return on investment (IRR, NPV, Cash on Cash, etc.) if the acquired business is integrated into the parent as opposed to acquired then exited 5 years later like in a typical PE case study. Would you just calculate the present value of revenue growth and cost savings?

F500 Finance Long-Term Potential

Hi Everyone,

So I think you can get a good idea of the short-term salary differences between Corporate Finance and other finance areas (namely IBD) through past threads, but I am curious about how this plays out long-term. It seems as if the salary gap between them increases significantly over time?

The main thing I am wondering is, if one were to start out in Corporate Finance will that be an immediate limitation on earnings potential? For example, would it still be possible to transition to a post-IBD job (PE, HF, VC, etc.) from corporate finance if someone found themselves stuck/limited/unfulfilled working in a F500 role?

I'm interested in trying get a FT consulting offer out of undergrad, but I realize that landing a consulting internship isn't very easy as there so few to go around. While I've heard strategy gigs can be just as selective, because there are a lot more F500 companies than brand-name consulting companies, I've been advised that trying to land one is not a bad stepping stone to break into consulting.

So what's the process like? What do they look for in candidates? What are the interviews like? Do they also do case interviews?

Thanks for the help guys!

Assistant Brand Manager track?

 on 4/27/13 at 4:42pm

I'm doing some job research for my GF and we've came to the conclusion that brand management at a CPG is a good fit for her. However, I can't figure out the standard career path for undergraduate marketing majors to become an assistant brand manager.

Why kind of jobs should she apply to before BM? is it possible to go straight into BM from a non-target school? What should she be reading/studying? Any other tips?

From what I understand, brand management and consulting tackle the same strategic issues but consultants get broad exposure at the cost of not knowing a single product/company/brand extremely well. Your MBB consulting firms will focus more on strategy whereas BM will actually oversee the execution of strategy also.

Actual title would be quartermaster.

I would want to go to bschool then get into f500 corp dev or strategy later or start my own nutritional supplement business but this is more of a fantasy.
