Bulge Bracket

Are banks rescinding MBA offers?

Hi,

My girlfriend summered at a (surviving) bulge bracket firm this past summer in IB, and received an offer to go back full time after she graduates from her MBA program. I'm just wondering if banks have started rescinding offers to the incoming associates yet? She received a call from their HR department, and is nervous to call them back. Has this started in the past few weeks? Or have the layoffs only been those currently on the payrolls? Any color would be helpful. Thanks.

MM to BB?

what do you guys think of a possibility or a strategy of transferring from a middle market ibd to bulge bracket ibd? Has anyone done i-banking in middle market, gone to a top mba and got into a bulge bracket firm? is it impossible to do that? Would appreciate any inputs (only helpful ones - no offensive comments plz).

Analyst to Consulting

I've recently accepted an Operations Analyst position for a top BB (GS/MS). This is what I wanted as I enjoy process improvement and project management, though I know the knee-jurk reaction on this site is opposite.

I was a SA and not to sound pompous, believe I was the top one or two analyst and will be placed in a consulting/project role vs. a documentation/data-entry. Background: Semi-Target, 3.6, 3 internships, diversity candidate, excellent leadership ECs, etc.

Long term, the idea of strategic management consulting is appealing...

- Is it possible to lateral as a Business Analyst at a BB to a BA at Mckinsey/Bain?

- What's the best way or route to position myself?

Any advice, thoughts, or knowledge of other's experience would be appreciated...Thanks!

Is this internship opportunity worth it? Senior deciding between BB and potentially PE

I was just called in for an interview at a smaller PE firm (the firm is legit, not a chop shop). I was deciding if this fall internship opportunity (meaning fall of this year as in right now) is worth it.

The responsibilities include:

- Perform necessary research and writing in support of the preparation of fundraising
materials for Real Estate and Hospitality Fund II
• Analyze market information, property reports, and financial performance of potential
acquisition opportunities
• Help track the performance of portfolio investments and participate in related
management meetings
• Support client assignments for financial advisory practice

The catch is the internship is for 10 weeks and unpaid except for a small bonus at the end depending on how many hours you work. The description doesn't say anything about having the opportunity to join full-time after the internship is over.

Mario Gabelli's Asset Management Company vs. Top BB PWM

Does anyone have any information regarding the prestige, pay, etc. regarding Mario Gabelli's Asset Management Company (now known as GAMCO Investors, formerly known as Gabelli Asset Management Company) vs. a PWM position at a top BB.

They are coming to recruit at my school (mid-west) non-target for an Institutional Sales & Marketing position. The minimum required gpa to submit a resume is a 3.5 which happens to be higher than the 3.3 gpa required by a couple of top BBs are that coming for PWM.

I was reading up on the people and they seem quite impressive. Of course, you have Mario Gabelli who is a pioneer in the Value-Investing world.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
