Bonus on Wall Street

We are pleased to announce the launch of the Third Annual Investment Banking Compensation Survey (http://www.wallstreetcomps.com)

This survey is to keep you and your peers informed about the compensation trends in the industry. The resulting compensation report will be free and will break down compensation by title, location, groups and banks.

The survey is only focused on professionals (from Associates to MDs) working in investment banking.

Future of I-Banking: Culture and Pay

Since it seems like supersized paydays are a thing of the past, will i-banking continue to entail the grueling hours and tough environment? As I understand it, the reason bankers worked so hard was for the trade off of millions of dollars; now that the money is gone, will employers be able to demand so much? Will so many young people go into banking? Obviously there is no way to know for sure, but what do you see for the future?

Clawbacks

Clawbacks

So I have been hearing a lot lately about "clawbacks" on bonuses. The idea being that if you leave a firm you have to give back some bonus pay.

However, if you get fired or laid off do you still have to give it back? Or is it only if you leave voluntarily? And if that is the case then if you decide to look for another job and sleep in every day so you get fired then are we not incentivizing people to slough off their work when they think they may have an opportunity to go somewhere else?

nytimes article on bonus - valid or not???

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/18/business/18pay.html?_r=1&hp

Mr. Kim’s colleagues, not only at his level, but far down the ranks, also pocketed large paychecks. In all, Merrill handed out $5 billion to $6 billion in bonuses that year. A 20-something analyst with a base salary of $130,000 collected a bonus of $250,000. And a 30-something trader with a $180,000 salary got $5 million.

A 20 something analyst got a total comp of 380,000?? NY Times seems to be making some serious accusations of over-compensation or ML was secretly doling out those kinds of numbers

Stub Bonuses

I just took a S&T job with a BB in NYC and I have been hearing some talk about a stub bonus. What exactly is a stub bonus-it seems to me as a 6 month bonus. Does this mean that whatever you would get for the year is divided in half? Also does anyone have any info on how S&T/IB analyst bonuses are looking (stub or not).

Any info would be great

Also, does anyone know which of the following are doing stub bonuses: JPM, BofA, Merrill, MS, GS, Citi.

Goldman Sachs Comp Day!

very curious...analyst/associate numbers anyone?
