Ok.

It is probably not the best acting I have ever seen and the fact that Scott Disick´s voice does not mimic Christian Bale´s one bit will probably annoy most on here, however I thought it was pretty funny that they chose to parody American psycho for Kanye West´s new album.

Somewhat skeptical on this one - similar to The Hangover sequels but I will definitely be seeing this one what it comes out:

Hi, if a story is printed in the FT or WSJ, it can apparently have quite a significant impact on the market. partly because everyone working in finance is reading at least one of the two. but what about other daily newspapers? assume a similar story is printed in the times or the guardian. what the impact be similar since the content is more or less the same? or wouldn't it reach enough people? sry if this is a stupid question

thanks for any replies

Thoughts on this? Heister brings up a good question: "Who else is going to the job? Which senior Goldman partner is planning on retiring and needs to shield millions in stock options from taxes?"

via Bloomberg:
Obama Says Bernanke Has Been at Fed ‘Longer Than He Wanted’

President Barack Obama said Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke has stayed in his post “longer than he wanted,” one of the clearest signals the central bank chief will leave when his current term expires next year.

“Ben Bernanke’s done an outstanding job,” Obama said in an interview with Charlie Rose that aired yesterday, when asked about nominating him for another term subject to Senate approval. “He’s already stayed a lot longer than he wanted or he was supposed to.”

We all have them. The friends that think everything is going to be okay, just because they went to a top 50 business school and have have a GPA above a 3.5. They will say things like "Employers aren't going to expect me to have relevant work experience. I have't even graduated yet!" or "How do I network?" Of course most people on this forum see this as a completely flawed ideology, but the truth of the matter is that more than 50% of college graduates had that mind set in school and yet we still have a some what productive economy.

Anyone hear of the business deal between Samsung and Jay-Z? A 3 minute Samsung commercial was aired during Game 5 of the NBA finals showing Jay-Z working on his album with producers Rick Rubin, Pharrell, Swizz Beatz and Timbaland.

" The album is titled "Magna Carta Holy Grail", and will be released on July 4. Samsung has agreed to purchase 1 million copies of the new album for $5 apiece, giving them for free to lucky Galaxy users a full 3 days before release. "

Residence options near park ave in manhattan

Im going to JPM in manhattan this september and im looking for a decent place to stay (1br/studio).

Im looking at some safe options in midtown west (atelier, one mima, silver towers, orion) but i was wondering if the area near park ave and the circle would be better. It is certainly closer to where i'll be going to and coming back from everyday.

But i don't know of any specific options in that area and dont want to go in blindly. Whatever it is it must have a decent gym. A park view would be really really nice. I dont mind paying a little extra for something in return.

Any ideas?

Greetings all.
No, this is no troll post. And I know, I'm a douche.

Here's the story.

I have been with the same girl since high school (7 years now). I love her, and we are moving in together next month.
During that time, I was semi-courting a girl at school. It started out as just messing around and hanging out, but I think I've developed serious feelings for this other girl. She is a lot like me, and she is never out of my mind. Sadly, I do not feel the same way about my girlfriend. This other girl is also interested in me, but does not know that I have been lying to her for 4 years about not having a girlfriend. She has had boyfriends during this time, but nothing serious. We haven't done anything yet, other than hanging out once in a while, and making out pretty seriously.

The emergency manager who was sent to reverse the fortunes of this financially troubled city asked some of its creditors on Friday to accept pennies on the dollar as he laid out his plan for tackling Detroit’s staggering debt, kick-starting negotiations that could determine whether the city is headed to bankruptcy court.

[quote]

The proposal includes an offer that amounts to less than 10 cents on the dollar on some of the city’s unfinanced debt obligations like unsecured bonds and a portion of unfunded pension liabilities, which together total more than $11 billion. He will hold another meeting next week with labor leaders and retirees for further discussions on the plan, which also includes a proposal to reduce health care benefits for retired city workers.

Credit Card Options for Incoming Analyst

 on 6/14/13 at 6:24pm

I'm about to start FT this summer with a typical incoming analyst salary/bonus structure. I'm wondering what credit cards, if any at all, should the newly graduated/employed be pursuing. I've heard Amex Gold/Chase Sapphire/Starwood are good ones - that said, I probably have no idea what I'm talking about.

Up to date, I've had a credit card for less than a year, and it's one with a rather small limit. Am I going to get dinged for this? If so, what's the best way for me to mitigate these circumstances. Directly call up the credit card companies?

Thanks for the help!

O’Neill had also invited many of his super-rich friends, such as Opel heir Georg von Opel, Cadbury chocolate heir Joel Cadbury, Colombian billionaire Alejandro Santo Domingo, and Aidan and Fizzy Barclay. Other well-known invitees were Duran Duran band member John Taylor, the CEO of fashion retailer H&M, Karl-Johan Persson, and golfer Jesper Parnevik.

O'Neill, 38, is a partner and head of research at Noster Capital, a value investing hedge fund. [BusinessInsider]

Gold - what intrinsic value?? (besides modern human technology)

Hugo Bentley's picture

Just triggering a mini debate to help me wrap my head around the notion of gold as money...

So at t=0 we have three guys,
1) guy 1 has chickens but wants fish
2) guy 2 has fish but wants horses
3) guy 3 represents millions of other people with different possessions vs desires.

Therefore, I clearly see the need for a convenient intermediate commodity to facilitate trade between the 3 guys.

I also register that gold has various intrinsic properties that make it suitable for the task of being an intermediate commodity:
1) won't rust
2) rare
3) cannot be easily counterfeited
4) easily divided
5) easy to move

Recommend a Phone? iPhone? Samsung Galaxy? Blackberry?

I'm thinking of replacing my phone "iPhone 4" now that the time limit is up and am thinking what phone to get. So far my list (not in any specific order):

1. Samsung Galaxy S4
2. HTC One
3. Nokia Lumia 920
4. Blackberry Q10
5. iPhone 5

Wanna get some thoughts on the WSO community. I've used an iPhone, and blackberry in the past, but I'm sure I won't have trouble getting adjusted to the Android Platform.

As a college sophomore I was thinking Blackberry Q10 might seem more "professional" as opposed to a regular smartphone, or am I over thinking this? Which one do you think is best?

Man of Steel

What did you guys think of Man of Steel? I just came back from the newest Superman movie and I must say that I am really disappointed. Let me start off by saying that I am a huge Superman fan and had extremely high hopes. Here are my thoughts:

1. The movie was extremely humorless to the point of depression. I understand that the film makers want a more serious adaption similar to the Nolan trilogy but I mean come on. Even those movies had the occasional joke and silly moments throughout the movie.

2. There is no reason that Lois and Superman should have had feelings for each other beside the reason that it was "meant to be". There was no chemistry and hardly any flirtation, if at all.

So I've been dating this girl for about 5 months now. I met her while she was in New York, but she works in DC. Anyway, I really like her and things have been going well. I'm a little concerned that she doesnt really respond or offer any compliments. Hear me out guys, I think it's weird. So an example, she's working hard to study for her FSO exam (she works for the govt) and I've been really supportive, leaving her nice voicemails, messages and even had flowers delivered to her work place. All she said in return was thanks. That's fine but then she texts me saying how her boss is so nice and left her a "super cute/adorable" message saying good luck on the day of her exam. Are you kidding me?
