SF/LA visit

Fellow monkeys,

I will be hanging around the SF region the third week of April, and the LA region around the fourth week. I am a financial analyst (mainly equities, little bit of fixed income) working for an European asset manager with AUM around 1.4 bn and a little over 3 years of professional experience.

Music to pump yourself up and combat sleepiness before interviews

Any suggestions?

Got Sweatpants (Gambino), January 28th (J. Cole) and NYC (Brolin) so far...

Chase Sapphire Preferred - First Year Analyst

Anyone know if you can qualify for the Chase Sapphire Preferred credit card as a first year analyst? Any other suggestions for a card for analysts? It would be a my first credit card so I have no prior credit history.

Hit Pause when you get Overwhelmed (and other tips)

Recently an analyst in my office was obviously overwhelmed. History showed that this analyst was a very high performer, but something was off as his work product was subpar and he was being short with all of us. I asked him what was up and he said, "I can't get everything done, and the work keeps stacking up."

I instantly went into career coaching mode and gave him some of my sure fire tips for getting out from under the crush of work.

Last Day in NYC

It's our last day in NYC. Any must sees/dos before heading home?

Thanks!

Best paying role in finance?

I have doing some research on various forums and speaking to different people and I found that base salaries for quants with no experience is between $90K-$120K with some people mentioning around 25%-50% bonus . With 3-5 years experience base salary moves to $150K-$180K base with around 50% bonus.
Are these numbers accurate?
If so being a quant the best paying role in banking?

Stock market rigging is no longer a ‘conspiracy theory’

''The stock market is rigged.
When I started making that claim years ago — and provided solid evidence — people scoffed. Some called it a conspiracy theory, tinfoil hats and that sort of stuff. Most people just ignored me.
But that’s not happening anymore. The dirty secret is out.''
