NY IBD to Chicago PEHey guys, So I'm starting in NY as an analyst for FT this summer at a BB. My goal is to move to PE after my 2 year stint. However, I have no interest in staying in NY. How would I go about trying to get a job at a PE firm in Chicago after my 2 years? I would not care if it payed less, was a less... 5 years 12 months
Obama DeceptionI just found out about it today. Anyone else seen it? Thoughts? 6 years 8 months
Acceptable Hair style for workI know IBD is very conservative (ie white or baby blue shirt) but where is the line drawn for hair length / style in the office? I worked with another intern who had shaggy hair (but not too long) and no one seemed to care about his hair. What would be the point at which the line is crossed? Here... 6 years 9 months
Ever thought of porking a fat girl?So my friend sent me a clip of a really fat chick riding a skinny dude and I literally couldn't stop laughing because it looked like he was getting suffocated and giving his last twitches before croaking. Anyway, it got me thinking about what it would be like...but I'm pretty sure I would not be... 6 years 10 months
Pump-up workout musicI was just wondering what you all listen to while working out. I train at the school gym and can't stand the gay pop and top 40 garbage they play. Avenged Sevenfold and Disturbed really do it for me. What about the rest of you? 6 years 10 months
Analyst with more power than an associateI understand that analysts do most of the grunt work and spend most of their time crunching numbers. I also know that IBD is not a meritocracy at the junior level. However, if an analyst were to be very good at understanding the business world and the industry they work in (near VP level of... 7 years 2 weeks
Does GPA matter after getting the offer? So here's my dilemma: I'm a sophomore and am going to be an SA in IBD this summer at a BB. However, this semester my GPA isn't so hot, and by that I mean it sucks balls. It wasn't even that great to begin with (3.56) from HYP. I expect my cumulative to dip to around 3.45-3.55 by the time the... 7 years 6 months

Public investing analyst skillset doesn't really teach you what you need to do for the VP process oriented role at a PE shop. 1 year 10 months

Think of it as a fee that needs to get paid by the Company / sponsor to get the debt in place. Example in practical terms: company gets 100 of debt, and it comes with an OID of 1%. Meaning, you will pay a 1% "fee"... 1 year 11 months

My questions: 1. How long were you an associate and was it a 2-3 year and out or was there the possibility for direct promote at the firm? 2. What... 2 years 2 months

I think the turning point (for me at least) is where you see your job for a job, regardless of what you do (PE, HF, etc) and stop defining your yourself by what your title or job is.
