Negotiating Promotion and Salary at Current...I need to negotiate soon for a promotion and salary boost, and I'd appreciate everyone's view on how much to ask for and how (well, round out my ideas on how, I suppose) -- prior to this position I was in a much more structured banking program. (PS - I've read most of Harvardgrad'08s classic thread... 1 year 5 months
ECM to Equity ResearchDo you know people who have transitioned from ECM to equity research? In reality, the work is very different but it also seems like a semi logical move. Thoughts? 3 years 7 months

Enlisted military experience and business schoolWhat's the perception of former enlisted guys among business schools? I tend to think they generally don't know the difference between officer and enlisted. If I highlight the leadership skills I picked up, is it possible I'd be in the same position as a former officer? Seems to me like it could go... 3 years 8 months
What to wear on the first day of workI think either option is pretty safe but I figured I'd go ahead and run this by the crowd. What would you prefer to wear on your first day (bulge bracket risk analyst, business casual): 1) Blue shirt with dark navy trousers 2) White shirt with charcoal gray pinstripe trousers Both with... 4 years 11 months

Negotiating Promotion and Salary at Current...Thanks, I've read that before but could use the reread. Smart author! -- NY is such a different animal that I can't ask for the full COL differential, but I can throw it out as a data point and note hey, I'm a reasonable guy, I know companies don't pay this kind of salary bump for their NY... 1 year 5 months
Fired For Applying To B-School, What Now?If you have money saved up and relatively few ties, you could do something overseas and different. Ever wanted to work with an NGO in a developing country, be in the Peace Corp, teach? Reduce your expenses, do something fulfilling, and travel. B-schools love that stuff and your time for doing... 1 year 11 months
Interview with Credit Risk Associate (Part 1/2)
Hold on, I am slightly confused. You are saying that Credit risk analyst pull in 100k plus bonuses of 50% or greater? Or are we still talking about associates? Because for an analyst that seems high as hell. I thought it was more like $90k all in for analyst.
No,... 2 years 1 week
NYU STERN Possibilities Why is this a troll post? I know people who messed up like that, did well in CC, then transferred to targets. Usually had military in between, though... The gpa you'll need to transfer from a cc may be closer to 3.9. Yeah, it's possible OP, but you have to completely change the type of... 2 years 1 month
Interview with Credit Risk Associate (Part 1/2)

Assuming you are in NYC/SF with that salary..
Actually, credit risk at my BB in NYC makes substantially more than that. Base is same as IBD at analyst/associate level ($100 for first year associates, though I think they kept the... 2 years 1 month
.I went to a CC and I never mentioned it in interviews. Too many people look down on it, and it can be easier then getting in from HS (wouldn't say that's always true, though -- the school I transferred to had an acceptance rate from HS of ~20%, but the transfer rate for my major was ~8%). 2 years 1 month
No more big bonuses for senior bankers in EuropeI'm pretty sure SureThing is being facetious. Saying that salary would thus be 1/3 of total comp is a bit John Madden-esque... 2 years 1 month

Anyone commute from the UWS to FiDi?The 2/3 is about the most reliable line in the city, tied with the 4/5 I'd say (because they are the busiest). The 1 and the A/C will work as a backup in a pinch as well. I have a similar commute, as do a lot of the other analysts. That commute is super common, and you won't find much faster, e.... 2 years 1 month
