MIT MFin Worth it for someone with 3+ years of...I have 3+ years of experience in securitized / synthetic credit markets and now work at an alternative asset manager. Applied to a few graduate programs to see where I get in and just got an acceptance from MIT. While it's a great school, I'm not sure if I'll have any career advancement by... 3 months 6 days
Grad School / MBA Suggestions welcomeHere's a little background about myself - 2 year in CMBS structuring at BB, 1 year in CDS swaptions research at BB, ~1 year at a credit fund (isn't a HF per se, more akin to PE). Have a nice educational background and solid recs. GRE score is 327/340. I'm at a situation where grad school / b-school... 8 months 2 weeks
HF RecruitingSo I'm at this point where I'm happy with what I have but know can do better. To give some background, I went to a feeder school in NYC, then did two years in real estate banking, one year in synthetic credit strategy / research, both at the same BB. I just very recently joined a PE firm doing Real... 11 months 3 weeks
URGENT! Quitting without two weeks noticeApart from common courtesy, does quitting without the two week notice have any legal repercussions? My employee handbook states that one 'should' give two weeks. My offer letter states it's required and to consult the employee handbook for further details. The employee handbook says one 'should'... 1 year 2 months
How do you invest / diversifyHow do you guys invest / allocate your personal portfolio? Stock picking, ETFs and HY bonds come to mind for people in their 20s and early 30s, but curious if people have experimenting allocating a portion of their portfolios to alternative strategies like algorithmic trading (if you know what you'... 1 year 3 months

Business School / Masters career questionSo, I graduated from a target school and have since worked in a CMBS / Real Estate Finance group at a BB for a couple of years before transferring to a research / strategy role in Structured Credit / Swaptions at the same bank as an associate. The new role isn't permanent so I'm looking for options... 1 year 4 months
MBA / Masters / Industry options Ladies and monsieurs, I have, in a way, what I'd say, a typical first world problem and was looking for advice from fellow feigners. I graduated from a target school and have since worked in a CMBS / Real Estate Finance group at a BB for a couple of years before transferring to a research /... 1 year 4 months
How to land a gig in Scandinavia / Switzerland? So I'm a US target school grad and have been working for a BB in CMBS / Credit Derivatives for about 3 years now. While I clearly know the best opportunities for me lie in NY, and then London, I'm pretty fond of Scandinavia / Switzerland / Continental Europe (excluding France). Wondering if anyone... 1 year 5 months

MIT MFin Worth it for someone with 3+ years of...
Doesn't sound worth it at all. Why did you even apply?
Just applied to this school along with Princeton Mfin (which I would have gone to if I'd gotten in), Berkeley (still waiting to hear, might consider), Harvard (MS Statistics) and Stanford (MS Statistics). The reason I... 3 months 6 days

Grad School / MBA Suggestions welcome
Without knowing your personal situation (folks don't go to b-school just for their career; a lot of H/S/W folks don't need the degree, or even need the pedigree, as they already have plenty of it), what I strongly suggest is to visit a few schools. Right now, class is in session,... 8 months 2 weeks
Grad School / MBA Suggestions welcome
oliver13: I'm at a situation where grad school / b-school isn't necessary at all. ^This
I agree, I'm just applying to see where I get in / if I get in at all at these top places. I'm don't see myself at my current firm in the long run but seems I can switch... 8 months 2 weeks
HF RecruitingYeah, that makes sense. The only reason I would apply to LBS is I thought it'd offer me offer at these kinds of shops in Europe. I'm more or less agnostic to location, and care more about the role. In your research, did you find B-school or masters degrees helping with this kind of transition? 11 months 2 weeks
URGENT! Quitting without two weeks notice
Just make sure you keep a good record of the check, amount, date sent, tracking #, picture, etc. Kind of weird how it would be made out to them, but I guess could be the case at smaller shops. When I had to quit at a BB, they made me make it out to the company.
Well... 1 year 2 months
URGENT! Quitting without two weeks noticeOne more questions to anyone still checking this out. My old company's HR is demanding the sign on bonus back. This is fine and I'm willing to send a check, but they want me to address the check to a Director in HR. Is that how it works? I wasn't really comfortable sending a check addressed to a... 1 year 2 months

URGENT! Quitting without two weeks notice
If you are in research, ever heard of garden leave? You won't be able to start the next day anyway. Also, if you quit you won't lose your Visa if it is transferred to your new company. Just because they ask you to leave immedietly does not mean they are firing you.
Yes... 1 year 2 months
