Leveraging McK Final Round to Bain/BCG 1st RoundIs it possible to use a McKinsey final round interview to secure a 1st round interview with Bain and BCG? A little background: I am a PhD student from Stanford. Last summer I applied to McKinsey and BCG's summer PhD programs (Insight and Bridge2BCG, respectively) and didn't even get to the phone... 14 2 years 7 months
Ravage this PhD consulting resumeInterested in any feedback, as it isn't easy to convert an academic CV to an effective resume. Will likely include an addendum with a full listing of publications and presentations (roughly one page) with resume when I actually apply. Shooting for MBB next fall. Thanks! Can't post links due... 13 3 years 1 month
STEM PhD to MBB-- What's the Point?Hi Folks. I am a PhD candidate in a STEM field at Stanford. I’ve decided that academia is not for me, so I have been exploring various career options. It seems the two most reasonable options for me are management consulting and R... 21 3 years 3 months

A couple of years ago I went through APD...A couple of years ago I went through APD recruiting at a top target. Got a couple of final rounds, no offers. I ended up graduating last winter and taking a technical science/engineering role. I like my job, but I'm getting the itch to apply again now that my 2-year window is up -- perhaps after... 49 6 months 3 weeks
My childhood best friend was and is an idiot. I...My childhood best friend was and is an idiot. I met him at age 4, so I had no idea, but he is very stupid - think 20th %-ile stupid. As we got older, I worked hard, got good grades, and enrolled in top schools. He drank a lot of beer, worked a lot of odd jobs, banged a lot of sluts, and just... 117 2 years 2 months
Great thread. Thank you for taking the time. I...Great thread. Thank you for taking the time. I went through MBB recruiting in 2013 as a PhD candidate and managed to get to the final round in 2 of the 3 firms (resume ding on the 3rd), but didn't get an offer. My final round feedback from each was almost identical: excellent quantitative skills... 137 2 years 3 months
Just to add another data point: got my ding call...Just to add another data point: got my ding call Monday am after the interview. Once Friday had passed without a call, I knew what was up and spent the weekend preparing (read: drinking heavily) for the inevitable. 8 2 years 7 months

An engineering field. Would rather not say which...An engineering field. Would rather not say which to stay somewhat anonymous. I got my BS from a crappy state school. I assume that is what killed me at the resume screen level for the summer programs. Makes sense, I guess. If they are getting, say, 100 PhD applicants from Stanford for 20 slots... 14 2 years 7 months
I've heard conflicting views on how much office...I've heard conflicting views on how much office preference matters with respect to gaining an offer. On one end is the view that the firm has one standard: SF=CHI=DET=Timbuktu. I've heard others say that the difference between, say, SF and Cleveland is night and day. I'm guessing that the truth is... 10 2 years 9 months

Everyone lines up, people are silent, and there are tons of men in uniforms that keep everything orderly. It is amazing that the system works as well as it does, despite the over-crowding. 64 2 years 9 months
