Gotham Consulting Partners

Hi all. Does anyone have any information on this PE consulting firm? If one joins the firm, are there exit ops to PE (maybe in 10 years when the market picks up)? Are they comparable to Bain's PEG or can they not be mentioned in the same sentence?

Is it crucial to understand what you're trading?

I'm talking mostly about pricing. Let's say you're trading equity options at a BB. Do you need to understand how they are priced? If you take a sample of 100 option traders, how many of them understand would understand the black scholes formula? how many of them would know how to price an option using a binomial tree? Put-call parity?

Is this HR email shady?

Kind of a strange situation; I got an email several days ago inviting me to interview with a middle market p/e shop for a summer analyst position. I'd already accepted a position at this point so I emailed them back saying I unfortunately accepted an offer. They replied back and wished me the best of luck.

Did anyone make a tough career decision this year?

Hi. I'm sure some people here made a crucial decision this year whether or not they wanted to pursue a career at a Hedge Fund or IB/S&T Group, whether it was for the summer or for full time. I know for myself I agonized over the decision for several weeks, despite it only being a summer analyst position. I have wanted to go into banking for a long while, but I also love the excitement of trading.

so what happens if HR knows you're choosing another firm?

So I've read that you're supposed to keep mum about what firm you're choosing. In my case I was stupid when deciding between offers. When HR from one bank asked me why I was taking so long I told them I was choosing between two banks, and gave her the names. I rejected the offer from the HR person, and she was pissed.

how long to get offer

Hi,
I had a final round with my top choice yesterday afternoon (MS/GS) and still haven't heard back. Does that mean I'm pretty much dinged? What's the general timeframe- same day, or is there a possibility that they would contact me the next day (i guess i have a few more hours to go before today officially ends)

Taking Merrill over M/B/B?

I have been fortunate enough to receive an offer at ML IBD as well as an M/B/B consulting firm. I never really considered consulting as a career, but a lot of my friends are incredulous that I would pass up the opportunity to work at MBB. ML isn't a total wow firm but it's definitely respectable.

Final Rounds for Non-Finance Majors

Hi. I've been hearing so much about finance questions being asked during superdays. I know the basics such of accounting and finance, but I'm not a finance major (though Econ & Math). What constitutes having a finance background? Being a finance major? What if one has only taken an introduction to accounting and an intro to finance course?
