What's the Investment Research Division like?

What's the real deal with the investment research division?

I interned at a BB in a diff division and am looking at my skillsets, what I enjoy, etc and I think investment research might be it, but, like an idiot, I got too wrapped up in my own division and with landing an offer instead of contacting alum in other divisions that interest me to see for myself, so I'm hoping someone on WSO will give me some real info.

-Workload/type?
-Hours typically (do you have your weekends? etc.)?
-Salary? (base is like 80, so what're the bonus ranges?)

Thanks.

NYU or Cornell?

I'm currently a sophomore transferring. I'm currently ranked in the top 5% and have a BB internship. I'm completely torn between NYU and Cornell (accepted at both already).

I love the city with a passion, and have a bunch of friends at NYU, but I will be in Gallatin's School of Individualized Study combining Finance at Stern, Pre-law, and economics and will graduate with an individualized study degree; I know I can market myself and pitch the Gallatin degree fairly well (I mean I got four BB offers out of a third-tier). I got into CAS economics as a freshman out of high school but temporarily transferred elsewhere and now like Gallatin's program better.

I got into Cornell's ILR school as well. I've never been to Ithaca, I only know one person there, and it's five hours from home, but a Cornell ILR degree has an edge over a NYU Gallatin degree.

Would going up to Cornell and possibly sacrificing immediate happiness be worth the degree in the long run?

Dress Attire for BB Intern?

I'm interning at GS this summer and have like 3 suits and one pair of nice dress shoes. I'm going to go shopping for more, but how much more?

Should I get a total of like 7 suits and cycle those throughout the 10 weeks?

Is 2 pairs of dress shoes ok?

How much should I spend considering the pay is around ~14k?

I know this sounds like common sense, but I'd like to hear what experienced monkeys have to say.

How do you turn down offers?

I got into GS, Lehman, JPMorgan and some others (rejected from Bear's Fixed Income), officially accepted GS. The deadline to reply for the others is tomorrow. Do I send an e-mail or call saying I'm not accepting the offer or do I just let it go and they'll assume I'm not accepting?

Thanks.

BB Summer Analyst - Check Grades?

Do BBs request transcripts? There was a section on the app that said "write three grades from classes that are relevant to this job." I had received an unofficial A from my teacher in one class, but after the departmental final curve took its toll (after the app was sent), it went down to an A- (literally a 94...I'm trying to fight it) and my cumulative GPA went from a 3.90 to a 3.88.
