Whats the deal with Middle-Office Finance at an investment bank?

I've heard mixed reactions from a lot of people about middle office finance at BBs. Some people tell me that its completely legit, mainly because you work so closely with traders etc. and get exposed to all areas of the investment bank whether it be IBD or S&T.

My father owns company X. X was bought out by Z 10 years ago. X still operates as its own company, but Z is the parent company and my dad gets paid by Z and answers to Z’s CEO. There is one particular factory facility, one of 3 in the country that are all affiliated with Z, that my father exclusively uses for his business.

So I'm a junior at a target Ivy majoring in business/finance. The thought of this whole banking recruiting process fills me with adrenaline, but also sucks the life right out of me. This season I applied to a few top BBs for IBD, but I knew IB would be a longshot for me considering my low-ish GPA of 3.4.
