If these banks get bought out by investors.. not government?

So amid all the hysteria going on right now with banks going under and firesale of assets and such, I was wondering IF banks like Wachovia and Washington Mutual get bought out by say JP Morgan, (apparently jim cramer thinks jp morgan should buy WM) hypothetically, would WM shares jump up?

If so, why or why not?

Why pursue MBA if you won't break into said industry anyway?

So after doing some research, it sounds like it's understood that if you didn't have prior experience in a specialized finance industry like PE/VC you're probably not going to get in unless you were in IB or Consulting.

Which leads to my question, if you weren't in IB or Consulting which MBA can perhaps help get you into PE/VC/Hedge Funds, why do others want to get an MBA if it's nearly impossible to break in?

another unrelated question which "search" didn't really answer, how many years at say a big4 is generally needed to get into a m7 mba program? Someone said only like 2% of a class is from accounting- is this because accountants don't get in or they don't want to get in. So let's say I decide to go easy route of big4 --> m7 mba... where would i and the other non-bankers/consultants most likely land since PE/VC run in their own circles?

ER buy-side internship, no clue what i'm doing

i'm currently a rising junior at a non-target. It looks like I'll begin a ER internship, and basically the guy asked if I know how to look at a balance sheet, income statement, etc, do some financial modeling (i'm not sure why he asked since its ER), npv, irr, and stuff like that.
I didn't lie, as I did take some intro classes, so that's exactly what I said. I told him I am familiar with them somewhat since I took some courses.

Is there a website or any books that I can cram or have like a crash course session w/ a textbook that you guys recommend? I'm really nervous that when given these tasks, I wouldn't know where to start.

Bloomberg update, seeking clarification

I'm still learning about this whole industry and there's something that I'm not quite understanding with this article on bloomberg, http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aRPJY7CeiAp8&refer=h...
In the second to last paragraph it says this,
" First-quarter U.S. mergers and acquisitions fell 61 percent from a year earlier to $210.7 billion as a jump in credit costs deterred buyers, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. "

It says that M&A activity fell because of the jump in credit costs? I thought that because of the whole credit crunch, interest rates are as low as they've been in a while (discount rate is at 2%) and that the Fed and Bernanke has allowed Ibanks to borrow up to $200 billion against the risk-free T-bonds they get in exchange for AAA mortgage bonds?

If in the 1Q they faced interest rates of 2% and 28 days to repay $200 billion essentially, how has there been a "jump in credit costs"?
