Just wanted to see if anyone can offer any tips for interviewing at one of the big 4, for their transaction group. Any tips would be appreciated. If you have actually gone through the process and been successful please send me a PM.

Advice On Recruiting

Well this sucks, I just got my phone call that I was basically "second" and the candidate before me accepted the offer. This is the third time this has happened to me. I've been on maybe 15 interviews and graduation is in a week! What sort of advice do you guys have? Is it too late in the game to actually get something going? What sort of advice would you have to take me from second place to first? What are potential traits to really stand out? Since IB looks like it isn't going to happen given the market right now and how every place I've spoken to is literally hiring 1 person if any, what would you recommend I get into and then try to lateral over? I have an interview for a transaction services group coming up so I'll try to push that but anything else you guys can recommend?

Email Opinions

Quick question, I know I'm being impatient and analyzing too much but I'm just curious what everyones opinions are. I wrote my thank you emails to each person I interviewed for during my final round. Only 2 people responded so far. One of them was neutral just saying nice to meet you etc, the other person, a VP, emailed back answering some questions I had then finished off by saying "best of luck with your job search". Although I have not gotten any official answer regarding my candidacy does this translate too we have already talked and we didn't select you?

Interview Question

Do you guys think it matters how many people you interview with? This is the first time that I've personally experienced this and I'm just curious if it "means" anything.

I'll be interviewing with one less person then the other candidate. Anyone ever have that happen? It's pre-scheduled too.

What to eat?

Hey Guys,

I'll be going to lunch with a few guys this week as a part of my interview. I was wondering what type of food to order that isn't too messy and would seem appropriate. For example I won't be ordering a $60 steak or anything.

Investment Banking - Public Finance

What is your opinions for public finance groups? I'm sure it will vary from bank to bank but in general what opinions do you have about public finance in investment banking.

1. Compensation comparable to other groups?
2. Cultures diff from this group to other groups?
3. Exit ops good?

I'm sure many will start saying what bank what bank but I'm just speaking in general terms and know the bank will of course have an impact my questions.

Undergrad -> Job -> MBA -> IBD

I'm in a difficult position. I've interviewed with maybe 10-15 banks and always ended up either "next in line" for an analyst job resulting in no offer, or just plain no offer. I've decided to open up my options for a job after undergrad and was wondering how related to IB does it need to be in order to get an MBA then go for an Associate position? Can I do anything I want?

Valuation Interview

I'll be interviewing tomorrow for a valuation / ib firm. I was wondering if there were any specific questions you guys think I should prepare for. For the most part I'm just reviewing the finance questions, etc that have been posted all throughout the forum but do you guys think I should study anything different for this valuation group?

From X To IB

Well along with a lot of other people I've had a tough time getting an IB offer. I've been through maybe 10-12 interviews, 4 final rounds, 0 offers. I am still actively trying to land something but I had a question and wanted everyones opinion.
