Long Distance Relationships

As a tangent to GameTheory's forum on relationships, it was mentioned that long distance relationships are tough to maintain. I'm wondering: just how difficult is it to maintain a serious relationship, where the foundation was built in college? I'm moving to NYC soon and my gf is headed to law school in a different state that is a 2 hour plane ride away from NYC. We will be in different states over the next few years. I would definitely like to hear from different people (both the pros, cons, and everything in between) about what type of obstacles everyone went through with maintaining a long distance relationship. Is it even possible to do?

I worked in NYC last summer and learned that it was definitely tough to stay in touch with people back home.. even as a summer analyst.

Thoughts?

Prop Trading: Equities vs. Derivatives

I've been looking at getting into trading, and I have been becoming more and more interested in pursuing entry level gigs at prop shops like trillium/first ny/susquehanna/DRW -- in addition to S&T at BB's. My question is: for the prop shops, what are the main differences between trading equities vs trading derivatives? Are the options traders at firms like Susquehanna/DRW usually the ones that trade standing in pits? Also, what is the compensation structure for these firms - both starting base salaries/bonuses, as well as earning potential differences years down the road? Also, what are the exit opportunites like? I would imagine that exit ops are a lot better for the derivative focused prop shops as opposed to the Trilliums/FNY's? My reasoning is that if you have a solid understanding of options/futures.. you could potentially go and work for a BB prop desk or structuring desk, or perhaps a HF... but I could be way off base.

need advice

I'm a former Bear S&T Summer Analyst in the Global equities division. I come from a non-target and just finished my 4th year. My plan was to do a BB SA stint and then come back for an extra semester to finish up school. After Bear fell through, I tried going to the other banks that I had turned down offers from, but it was too late in the recruiting cycle. I received a full time offer at a multi manager hedge fund as a quantitative research analyst - so I decided to finish up my classes online (only had a few more classes to take, which I will finish up by the end of the summer all online while working). They needed me to start right away because they had an analyst that was leaving to get his MBA.

JPMorgan rescinding contracts for Bear offers

Got my release contract in the mail today from JPMorgan. In the contract, it reiterates that I must sign and date the release form by April 30th, but it never explains consequences of what would happen if I didn't (aside from me not being able to use JPM career services...)

Any idea what happens if we don't sign the contracts?

Bear Stearns Summer Analysts

I signed with Bear Stearns as a summer analyst in Sales & Trading. I'm wondering if anyone has any insight regarding their internships with Bear this summer. Has anyone else heard anything?
