Exit ops after trading

What are the exit ops for a trader? What's the typical career path, I know of quite a few who have stayed with their respective bank from analyst-MD level. Is this usual? What age do traders tend to 'retire' or move on?

Hierarchy

I am astounded by the hierarchical nature of IB's. I completely understand that there should be a mutual respect in the workplace and seniors deserve it inparticular because of their knowledge and deal experience etc etc, but why do you need to pussyfoot around MD's and treat them as if they were superhuman even though they have been working alongside you for ages?

Question about the markets

Watching bloomberg and CNBC has given me the impression that there is a 'herd effect' that takes place in the markets which means it can be profitable to follow an upwards trend if you spot one earlier enough and get off at the right time...but what about anticipating a development or potential money making trade idea before others have....is that considered pure speculation?

Trading bonds

I have been pointed in the direction of Fabrozzi, to get clued up on bonds before I start my summer internship. Can anyone direct me to something lighter, maybe a website online, that I can start off with. Have LOTS to read with exams going on right now but really want to get up to scratch by the summer :)

Trading vs Poker

During an interview my interviewer mentioned that trading is alot like playing poker. Obviously I entertained the idea at the time, but actually I'm sceptical. What are your views? Are there lessons to be learnt from a game of poker (apart from discipline which we have all heard before)that can be applied to trading?

Keeping in contact

I have accepted a summer internship with a bank, after interviewing and meeting the team on the trading floor on a couple of occasions. I start at the end of June. How regularly should I be touching base with the trader who offered me a place on her desk?

Networking

I understand the value of networking can't be underestimated esp. within banking. But I have found that quite often suggestions of coffee/lunch have little to do with professional relationship building, but usually mask ulterior motives.

Type/level of math for credit trading

What type of maths is used by credit/currency traders? I see non scientific calculators are frequently relied upon, so I don't imagine it can get that complex?

Just curious to know what I am getting myself into as I have an internship within EM credit trading but no solid maths background. Nevertheless, def. willing to do the neccessary prep. before I get there, if required.
