Can you provide me with your thoughts on signing bonuses for 1st year associates. Specifically,

1) What was the standard figure for July 2007 1st year associates (particularly at JPM, GS, and MS)?

2) Does this bonus include relocation?

3) When do associates receive them (prior to begining or post start)?

4) Do analyst-to-associate promotes receive these signing bonuses?

I am aware that JPM has regional leveraged finance teams in Houston and Chicago. I'm curious to know...which other banks have leveraged finance regional offices? Does BofA, Deutsche have offices regionally?

IB: Product Side vs. Coverage Side

If one wished to stay in sell side banking for the bulk of their career, is it better to choose an opportunity on the product side (ie: Leveraged Finance, M&A, etc) or the coverage side (ie: diversified industrials, tech, etc)?

Can you please share your thougts on the Technology Sector (TMT) coverage groups at various IBD firms. Which TMT groups are the strongest today and which are the most promising? What are your thoughts on Tech long-term? Given the velocity at which tech companies grow...does the tech industry offer the best potential for IB fees long-term?

Wanted to get your thoughts and opinions on industry sector coverage for those wishing to remain in sell-side investment banking long-term(ie: NOT those that neccesarily offer the best exit opportunities). In particular, I'd like to know which industries offer the best prospects long term (ie: growth potential); which ones have the most potential for IB fees ($$$ - particularly debt financing and M&A); which ones are the most cyclical, etc.

I am considering a 3rd year analyst position within JPM's corporate bank (regional office, industry focused). It seems the group focuses as a middle market hybrid group...they do syndicated lending, DCM, ECM, and M&A.

Does anyone have any idea what the salary/bonus range is for a third year corporate banking analyst at JPM? Also, for a 1st year associate?
