DC Hedge Funds

Anyone know of any solid funds in the Washington DC area (DC, Maryland, Northern VA etc)?

Currently working as an analyst at a BB investment bank, but I'm looking down the road a bit. Not really looking to switch jobs quite yet, just doing some research.

Any insight would be much appreciated.

Wearing A Watch

I've read numerous posts/topics talking about what kind of watch everyone owns or how much you spent on your watch. I wear a watch occasionally, but not all the time. So I'm wondering (and please save the "are you seriously asking this question...who cares" response) do people on Wall Street generally wear watches? I mean you're sitting in front of a computer with a clock 90% of the time, so is it just a status accessory?

Apartment Rental Issue

I've got quite the problem for everyone here...

I'll be a 1st year analyst this year at a BB. I've been searching for an apartment for a while with a buddy from college. We found a great 2 bedroom place in our price range and in a good location, so we've gone through the application process.

Everything in the application process has gone well, but we were just informed we need a guarantor (since our year end bonuses aren't counted in our income). Most people ask their parents, but my parents were both teachers and don't have the money needed to be a guarantor (the building requires about 100x the monthly rent).

Morgan Stanley Structured Products

Just wondering if anyone knows anything about the Structured Products group at Morgan Stanley. Any notable names in the group? I know MS is very well thought of in just about every group on the street, but does anybody know how the different firms stack up in derivatives and structured finance? Thanks for the help!

Where iBankers Live (when not sleeping on their desk)

I received an offer from a BB a few weeks ago and have been looking around for housing. Obviously I'm not looking to rent specific places just yet, but I'm trying to get an idea of where people in the business live.

From the people I talked to at the bank, they seemed to live all over Manhattan. I'd appreciate anyone weighing in with their suggestions/opinions.

Any Engineering Majors out there?

I'm a senior Mechanical Engineering major with another major in Economics. I'll be graduating in the spring and I'm applying to many of the usual suspects: GS, UBS, Bear Stearns etc. Just wondering if anyone else out there in the ibanking world has taken the same career path?

Any advice or experiences you can share transfering from engineering to finance? Thanks!
