Jane Street Capital

What is the DL on this firm? Do they pay more than street? A lot of people from my school end up there over BBs and they definitely seem to drink the Kool Aid.

GS Stingy?

I assume a lot of people here read the "How Goldman Won Big On Mortgage Meltdown" on Friday. In that article it says, "The group's big bet that securities backed by risky home loans would fall in value generated nearly $4 billion of profits during the year ended Nov. 30, according to people familiar with the firm's finances.

DB ABS/secondary CDO desk

Does anyone know anything about this desk? I hear they are up over a yard this year and remain profitable in all business areas. They are the biggest market maker in ABX on the street. Something does not sound right. This stuff is supposed to be blowing up.

Forced Relocation to London (Not a visa issue.)

If a bank asks someone to relocate to London, after a few months into their analyst program in the US, and this person does not really want to make the move, what sort of ex pat setup should he or she expect from his or her firm? Assume they have US Citizenship, so it is not a forced visa move.

Do all sales people get sales credits?

I am going into trading and I am just wondering how sales people get paid. A lot of the back office people I hear fighting for sales people over who gets the "production credits." Do these credits get converted into a hard dollar amount or does the firm use them to track salespeople's productivity? Also, I heard that some firms do not pay sales people commission. Is this true at all? Does the compensation structure for sales people differ between products? I have also heard that some sales people can mark up the price over that the trader has quoted and then keep this additional amount. Basically, if anyone knows the ins of how sales people get paid, I think everyone on the forum might benefit.

Issues with the current markets

The current corporate debt markets do not make sense to me, and I am hoping someone might enlighten me. I think I read an article in WSJ or FT a week ago about how much debt from recent LBOs still needs to get placed. I think even TXU has not been underwritten yet, and that occurred in late February. Now that I am seeing a pace of over $10bn a week of LBOs, it would appear that banks might need to raise close to a trillion dollars in the coming months for these deals to close.

Distressed Debt

Does anyone here work on this desk at a BB? I am wondering what the experience is like and what sort of skills one might acquire in such position. How does one actually price this sort of product, and how liquid is the market? What banks historically have strong positions in this market?

Thanks for the information.

Did they make VP in three? I am just wondering how the super exceptional standout and outpace the normal promotion timeline.

Lehman effing their Foreign Hires?

So I hear Lehman brothers is not allowing their Manhattan hires to use OPT. If one did not get a visa, they will supposedly look for positions in their global offices in ANY division. I got a lot of friends at other banks and they all are basically using their OPT, then being sent to global offices to meet their counterparts, using their vacation, then returning in three months, hopefully with a visa. Why is Lehman so inflexible? What recourse does one have, other than marrying a US Citizen as fast as possible?
