Copy and paste the above address into your browser for a good read on M&A Activity this year (need to download .pdf file).

Page 15 has Top 25 banks (for announced deals) this year. Somewhat surprising after Top 10.

Non-target recruiting process - full-time

From what I've read it seems that the top consulting firms are even more selective than the top I-banks - "more selective" in that they will only look at core schools, no if ands or buts. There was one thread touching on the topic way back, but is there ANY recruiting process for non-target schools? There are plenty of examples of non-targets in banking but is there a decent amount in consulting as well? Thanks.

Summer Housing - Columbia Apartments

I'm completely unfamiliar with New York City. Would living near Columbia Uni be unrealistic for a summer intern? Also, is $1300/month reasonable for an intern? $1800?

Throw me bone here...

Anyone have any knowledge of this bank? I can do without the usual shitting-on that middle-market banks get on here.

Reputation, strong groups, etc. Anything is appreciated.

GPA/SAT on Resume

I was requested to include my cumulative GPA and SAT breakdown when I submit my resume to a specific bank. I haven't seen many companies ask for the SAT, so I'm wondering what typical range they look for in IB. Is anyone familiar with this? I did pretty shitty on the SAT, so I'm worried I'm gonna be chopped for this, even though my GPA is OK. For reference, my numbers are 1340 and 3.75, engineering at non-target.

Bonuses at Wall Street Big Five Surge to $36 Billion

By Christine Harper

Nov. 6 (Bloomberg) -- Never in the history of Wall Street have so many earned so much in so little time.

Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch & Co., Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. and Bear Stearns Cos. are about to reward their 173,000 employees with $36 billion of bonuses. That's a 30 percent increase from last year's record, and it doesn't include the billions more that will be paid by Citigroup Inc., Bank of America Corp. and JPMorgan Chase & Co., the three largest U.S. banks, as well as the hundreds of hedge funds and private-equity firms that constitute the financial industry.

MM Banks and Undergraduate Major

Common advice for non-target or less qualified applicants is to seek out middle-market or boutique banks. I've heard elsewhere that these banks are more inclined to only hire students with finance/accounting backgrounds. Is this fact or fiction? Is it because of the difference in training? Finally, what would you suggest for a non-business major in such a situation? Thanks in advance.
