Paid During Training?

I about to start at a BB for FT 08 and was wondering if we get paid during training? I know I should probably just ask HR this but with the way the axe keeps swinging I'm nervous about asking any compensation related questions. Thanks.

How to pick investments

I know this may seem like a novice question, but I was wondering what PE firms look for in screening potential companies to invest in. Besides cash flow and debt levels, what other factors make a company appealing for a buy-out?

BMO Capital Markets in the U.S.

I am interested in your thoughts regarding BMO Capital Markets’ position in the U.S. What types of deals does BMO generally work on? What level of prestige is associated with BMO in the U.S.? Would BMO be a good place for an analyst to start a career? And finally, are the hours and compensation in line with street?

KPMG Corporate Finance

I've searched through the forum about KPMGCF but I wanted to get more information about the firm. I know that KPMG Corporate Finance is the ibanking arm of KPMG, and is #1 in transaction volume, although handling smaller deals.

What I want to know is if anyone has any insights on the culture at that firm, and more specifically, information about the hours and compensation. Im assuming there would be less hours and lower pay than most banks, but does anyone have any experience or know anyone who worked at the firm. Any insights as to the recruiting/hiring process?

Time off for holidays?

I know of the long hours ibankers must put in, but do they generally get time off for major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years), or are they expected to be in the office most of the time. Also, is there a big difference between BB and MM or boutique firms?
