Is now a good time to enter Invetment Banking

The obvious answer is no, but assuming you can manage to land a job in investment banking at a decent shop, is this a pretty good time to start your career? Lets assume that you'll be starting in July. You do your 2-3 years as an analyst and then try to move onto something else. Obviously you won't be able to gain as much experience because deal flow is down, but that should be equal across all analysts. After you finish your analyst program in 2 years, that will be 4 years since the whole financial crisis began. Do you think all those hedge funds and p/e shops will start hiring again? I realize we'll probably never get back to those glory days, but we can only go down so far before we have to go up. Would also be fair to assume you will have less competition because banks will have hired less analysts?

Obviously no one can possibly know the answer to this question. Just looking for some peoples' opinions and input on this topic.

Buying a new suit

I am currently a senior and will be starting full-time at a top "boutique". I currently have 2 suits, one charcoal and the other a navy pin stripe. The navy pin stripe is pretty crappy and the charcoal is alright. Burberry is having an event in two weeks where you can order MTM suits for around 1000. I am looking for a solid navy suit. I am thinking I'll probably only need one more suit. Do you think I am spending to much money? It would probably be useful to note that I am pretty tall and skinny so I have trouble finding suits that fit well.

EHS-The New Yorker

This summer I'll be staying at the New Yorker through educational housing services. It's a bit on the expensive side, but I can't complain being that it's a 5 minutes walk from where I'll be working this summer.

Does anyone have any experience with living here? They mention that they have a gym. Anyone know if it's any good?

Responses from HR

I have mailed out a bunch of resumes to all the BBs through contacts and other sources. I've gotten some emails back from HR saying we received your resume and will contact you if they are interested in me, or something of that sort.

Are these responses basically more of a thanks but no thanks, or is there still the possibility that I may get invited to interviews?

I did a quick search on the website and did not find to much information. I understand they do not have a major presence in the US. They seem to be fairly active in emerging markets and appear to have a little better reputation in London then here.

Does anyone have any insight into their NY office? Anyone know anything about their Consumer & Retail group?
