First year internships?

I'm starting my first year at a top target school in Canada, and I was wondering what kind of internships should I be looking for after first year if I want to end up in investment banking?

I'd like to get some good experience after first year, so should I be looking at commercial banking, PWM, etc.? What other decent jobs would be good to target for the summer?

Call with a VP... help

Hey guys, here's how it is:

I emailed a VP, and he set up a call with me for today. I'm going into my first year of university in September here in Canada at a main target school (just take a guess...), and I really want to know what I should be talking about with him.

He put aside 10 minutes of his time to talk to me later this afternoon, and I just want some advice as to what I should talk to him about, or the types of questions to ask.

Probably keep in mind I'm going into my first year of university lol.

As some of you may already know, I am a high school kid that knows absolutely nothing about investment banking on any level (hope that made you a bit more happier).

With everything that comes up upon high school graduation, such as parties and all, there is also university planning, and on a more personal side, planning your life. I understand that all of you are already investment bankers, either at the associate level (I doubt there are VPs here, so you guys are the highest on this forum), or just an intern that is a hopeful of actually getting a full time offer once you graduate.

My exams are almost done now and was wondering if anyone can give me some advice.

My dad set me up with a residential house developer a year ago, just mainly doing gofer work. I worked in his office, and mainly just did nothing quite spectacular (I was 15... I wonder why).

Anyways, this summer is different. I am going to be volunteering in a non-profit office this summer and the Director told me that I'd be getting assignments to do on Excel and Word and stuff like that.

Hi,

I am currently in high school. I was wondering if you guys had part-time jobs during the school year in university? I have the marks and everything to get into a target here in Canada in 2 years, but I was just wondering if you guys had a part-time job during school.

And if you did, what type of job was it? If not, then would that affect your chances of getting into something like PWM your freshman summer?

Hi guys,

I'm a Grade 11 high school student in Canada.

I'm planning to attend the Richard Ivey School of Business as my first choice, and then maybe settle with Schulich or Queen's Commerce if, for some reason, I don't get accepted in Ivey. My marks are pretty good, so that's not an issue for me... higher than the cutoff.

I was wondering if any of you can offer me some advice. I'd want to enter investment banking when I graduate from university, but I'd like to start getting some experience now, if that's at all possible. I know I won't have the prized job of making coffee at Goldman Sachs or anything, but would you know of anything that I would be able to do that sort of relates to investment banking, even business in general?

Hey there. I was just wondering what exit opportunities are all about. I've been reading about them, and saw people say people enter IB for the exit opportunities. What exactly does that mean?

Relatively new, sorry for this dumb question, but also why would someone want to exit IB if that's the field they were striving for previously?

What exactly is an exit opportunity, and what's the point?
