After a few conversations with prospective monkeys, monkeys, etc. I just want to remind everyone that it is not your God-given right to get a job at a HF. They are not being handed out like candy and it requires a unique combination of talent/luck.

It is quite annoying that everyone on here thinks they will end up being Cohen or Tudor or Och or Whitworth. It is hard. Bust your ass and work hard and it might work out for you, but no one is going to hand you a job at Farallon when you're 19.

This is going to make things VERY tough on analysts... Not entirely clear how keyboard shortcuts will work, but if they're not the same, all the time people put into knowing them for the old versions of office will be wasted...

Sounds like the GUI will be more mouse-focused and will be more difficult to use shortcuts. Banks won't upgrade immediately, but when they do...

I am a little disconcerted based on the number of people on here who are currently 1st year analysts or will be starting as analysts next summer who are worried about how they're going to exit banking for HF/PE.

Just wanted to remind you guys that you have to bust your a.. for at least a year before any of those opportunities exists and even then, they're few and far between until you finish your 2 years.

As I'm new here, I just wanted to remind everyone to be very selective about whom you listen to on forums like this. Many of you are using information found here to make decisions (no matter how big/small) about your careers, which you shouldn't take lightly.

People have no way to credentialize themselves, and clearly not everyone on here is/was in the industry.

Be picky about the advice you take - people on here owe you nothing and they may be geniuses or idiots - you'll have to decide for yourself.
