How's FIG doing right now?

I'm interested in the industry, but am wondering what the deal flow is like. Obviously it's the craziest sector right now, but I'm wondering how that plays out in deal flow. Are companies afraid to do anything and bankers are stuck pitching? Or does the chaos allow for lots of capital raising and M&A (asset and division sell-off, etc.).

Leaving IB for HF in one year: when to interview?

So I believe there are two things that I understand from reading these forums:
1. In general, large PE/HF shops start recruiting for post-two year analyst positions starting in the analyst's FIRST March
2. Some HFs, though, are willing to bring in IB analysts after only one year of experience.

Recession-Proof Groups

There is obviously no such thing, but I was curious which groups tend to have more deals and less layoffs during bad economic times/recessions, considering the current economic climate. I'm going to be entering as a 1st year in June and would like to at least partially factor this in to my group decision.

Deadline to accept

So I received an offer from the bank I summered at...Assuming I can't participate in the accelerated processes, I'm wondering if there will be a conflict. I was never told what my deadline for accepting the offer would be (and I don't want to ask because I don't want it getting back to my group). Is there a standard deadline or at least a usual date when banks require you to answer.

How do BB's pick non-target students?

I'm from a non-target but have had VPs/MDs (alumni that I've networked with) at several BB's take my resume (for summar analyst position) and offer to help me get into the standard recruiting process. How will it be decided as to whether or not I get an interview, as its not like there are a set number of spots from my school that analysts will be picking resumes for? Does someone from HR decide, or is it analysts (or is it both)? Basically, I'm just wondering what happens to the resumes of non-target students that have a "connection" at the bank.
