Did anyone receive an interview invite for HBS Round 1 so far? I haven't heard of anyone in PE or Banking receiving an invite this year to date.

Dating during a recession - Part Deux

http://www.walletpop.com/blog/2008/05/23/recession-special-are-women-dat...

How sad. Women in New York, I tell you. My friend who uses match.com always complains about this phenomenom. With no mutual friends or acquaintances caught up in the middle, the chronic online dating women apparently love going out for free dinners with random dudes 4 nights/week, and then ditching them.

How is this Amanda Green chick ever going to get a date again?

Former Lehman employee looking to liquidate wardrobe

Hey guys,

I don't work at Lehman but one of my good friends does. He just purchased 3 Zegna suits and 2 Canalis, both in Size 42R. They are brand new and unworn. He also just purchased a Rolex Submariner and a Longines Master Collection. He is looking to liquidate all of these for cheap and move back to South Carolina. If you are interested, shoot me a PM and I will get you in touch. He is looking to get out of NYC within 1 week.

Writing Your Own Letter of Recommendation

Does anyone have experience with writing their own letter of recommendation for business school? Apparently, this is pretty common practice in Finance with MDs/VPs who are extremely busy and also have huge egos (i.e. I'm too important to write this letter, why don't you write this and I'll just sign it).

I have been asked by one of the senior people at my firm to go ahead and write the letter for him. I have worked closely with him and he knows me well, but he just doesn't have the time. His recommendation would look great on my application, but I don't want to be caught for having the same writing style. What is a man to do?

HBS/Stanford

Did anyone here go to HBS or Stanford GSB? Or do you have close friends or colleagues that went to either of these 2 schools?

Can you please share your experiences with the admissions process and what exactly they look for when they are reading essays? These seem to be very different schools from everything else in the M7.

Business School Stereotypes

What are everyones thoughts on the below? How true are they?

1.) Harvard -
Pros: The best academic brand in the world, people from East Timor will know where you went to school. Graduates are extremely polished and dynamic leaders. its no coincidence that so many politicians these days are HBS grads.
Cons: Students are about as pompous and pretentious as possible. Polish is a fancy way of saying full of s**t. its no coincidence that so many politicians these days are HBS grads.
Office Space Character: Lumbergh (Peter’s hated boss). He’s a quintessential Harvard grad; in charge and full of platitudes that sound great but on further inspection don’t make any sense. He also drives a nice car and makes a lot of money while being universally loathed. Kind of sums up every HBS grad you’ve ever met, right?
2.) Stanford -

Associate Recruiting

Everyone - what are you expecting as far as associate recruiting for the coming years given the current economic climate?

It seems like class of 2008 MBAs are fine. The class of 2009 seems to be quite worried about the conversion rate of internship to FT offers.

How worried should the classes of 2010 and 2011 be respectively?

If people apply to B-School this year, start in Fall of 2009, intern during the summer of 2010, and start FT in 2011 - should they be alright?

I am guessing that M7 schools will be less hurt as far as recruiting - but schools ranked 10-15 will take a larger hit?

Are we going to have guys who did banking pre-MBA choose to go back to banking instead of pursuing buy side jobs? Essentially, hogging up all the slots for career switchers etc.?
