Do analysts ever get fired for poor performance?

I've been wondering about this for a while actually. This past summer during my banking internship, there was this one summer analyst in my group who was terrible. He always tried to leave early (he'd start getting antsy around 8pm), avoid being assigned hard work, and the work he did do was terrible. He just didn't seem smart enough to understand even the most basic work, and was too lazy to bother trying to learn it (incidently, he went to an ivy league school...go figure). He obviously did not get an offer from the bank we were at, but he was in SEO so he was able to interview with all of the other banks on the street at the end of the summer and secure several offers since he interviewed with the other banks before he even found out that he didn't get an offer from our summer bank. So now I'm wondering what it's going to be like for this guy at his new bank come July. Is it really worth it for a bank to shell out 90k+ (I'm assuming he'll get the lowest bonus) to have someone around who's essentially dead weight?

Which bank has the best looking female analysts?

Which bank has the best looking female analysts? I'm not asking which bank has the best looking women, including secretaries and other admin people. It'd be nice to be working alongside a hot gal at 2am.

Also, what's the consensus on dating someone at your bank but not in your group? What about someone in your group? It doesn't seem like you'll have time to meet anyone outside of the office...

Moving from NYC BB to London BB

I'll be starting full-time at a BB in NYC this summer in banking. However, having gone abroad to London and actually lived there for 2 years (when I was a little kid, though), I'm really interested in working there at some point or even forever. So, a couple of questions:

- How easy is it to get your bank to transfer you to London? Can you transfer after the first year or the second year? If you can transfer after the first year, wouldn't that mean you'd have to start asking to transfer like right when you get there (which obviously wouldn't look good).

Industrials banking and off-shoring

I'm thinking of shooting for the industrials group at the bank I will be working at stating full-time in July. One thing that concerns me, though, is the off-shoring of industrials (like autos, manufacturing, etc.), largely to Asia. Obviously the Asian office of the bank could benefit from this, but it seems like the US office wouldn't see much deal work then.

I'm thinking long-term as I actually liked banking during my internship this past summer and may very well want to stay in the industry long-term and be a career banker. So, I don't want to join an industry group that will be dead in the US in 10 years.

Senior Year Grades

Is it important to actually keep my grades up senior year? I've gotten extremely lazy and find studying to get anything beyond a B really difficult. I had a solid 3.8 GPA junior year during recruiting, although it's been gradually falling ever since. If I continue to exert zero effort, I will probably finish college with around a 3.5...if I put in a lot of effort, I could finish with a high 3.6 or 3.7.

Timing of background checks for full-time analysts

Does anyone know when background checks are conducted for incoming full-time analysts (analysts starting in Summer 2007)? The reason I ask is that one of the guys whom I'm planning to live with starting Summer 2007 recently mentioned (while drunk) that he'd "bumped up" his GPA a bit. I don't want to start living with this guy and then have him get fired and no longer be able to pay his share of the rent.
